I haven't tried pill pockets myself but many on here use them. I used to crush them and mix into yogurt, but I was told many meds are time release and that was not a good idea. Uni hates pills and she can tell when one is hiding in a treat. I just have to cover it with yogurt (plain greek style) or you could try cream cheese if she doesn't have issues with fattier foods. Mine has pancreatitis so I have to be careful only give her lower fat foods/treats. But pretty much I have to open her mouth, jam it as far back as I can and hold her mouth shut until she licks her nose at least three times. Usually she tricks me and will eat the yogurt and hide the pill in the flap on her mouth under her mustache. So make sure you check she really swallowed it. Another thing is a pill gun. I have not tried that before. |
Oh yeah I have learned to check. She is too smart to sneak it in food. |
We went back for her recheck yesterday but she refused to pee for them. But I think she is fine by the way she is acting. We did her yearly exam and pulled blood for her dental. She was heart worm negative. |
Update: When we had her dental done they got a urine sample. No blood on Friday just pieces of broken up crystals. But they said just to keep watch nothing needed to do at that time. Now today she had an accident on my mom's white floor but it was just very clear she has blood in her urine again. We will be calling the vet first thing in the morning. |
wow, sorry to hear this, also sorry I never saw your post about the greenie pill pocket being ok for sensitive stomachs. All I can suggest is to buy a small package for tablets. Cut it in 1/2 and feed it to your pup. See if she can hold it down, that's all I can suggest. You don't have to give the entire pill pocket, my Cody is a big boy 12 lbs and he cannot manage an entire pill pocket, I use enough to cover the tablet. Please keep us posted on lil Kiki. |
Have you tried coating it in peanut butter? I've had to do that before, hope it works and hope she is completely well soon :) |
She has learned the peanut butter trick. We are using cheese now but she is going to figure that out soon. |

Hope she is doing better today, they are quick learners and figure out ways to trick them fairly quickly. I wish you luck with it, and pray that she is 100% quickly! |
