My baby ate fat trimmings!!!! My yorkie accidentally ate two small peices of fat trimmings from a steak. She is one yr. old and weighs about 3 lbs. I am panicking because I have read that these can be extremely toxic. She is acting normal as of now but what should I look for? When do I know if I am in the clear?! Any help would be great!!! |
Watch for vomiting and/or diarrhea. Fat can be deadly as I can attest to after losing my Gina because my husband gave her beef brisket with fat. Also, watch for blood in her poop. |
Is there any chance it won't affect her? Or is she doomed?! |
No, she is not doomed. Just watch her carefully. One of the members dog ate a slice of pizza and was just fine. It all depends on the dog. More than likely she will be just fine. |
Ok I am really hoping so. Thank you for the quick response, I am really scared. How soon/late can she show symptoms? Is there a time (hours, days) when she should be in the clear if no symptoms show? |
Thank you so much for the quick response. I am so scared. Is there a time scale for when she will show symptoms? Immeadiate, hours, days? If now symptoms appear how do I know when she is in the clear? Hours, days?? |
I meant if no symptoms |
I would give your vet a call tomorrow and ask them. I'm no expert. I speak only from a terrible experience with my little girl. |
hope she is okay |
Thank you. As of now, she is acting perfectly normal. Eating a drinking fine, energy level consistent with Her normal self. No vomit or diarrhea yet. I'm praying that other than some soft stool and maybe a tummy ache she has no major health issues from this. I feel awful that this even happened. |
She'll probably be just fine. Look for lethargy or of course any other sign that she's sick. The fat is an issue because it can cause pancreatitis. She however will probably be just fine, so keep a good eye on her and don't worry too much. :) |
dog Yorkies seem to be sensitive to certain foods. I gave Spud chicken from the Costco chicken I bought and he has vomited and had loose stool. Had him to the vet. Only very plain chicken , no spicy stuff. I learned and hope he gets better. Hoping and praying your sweet Yorkie will be well too. |
I'm just wondering if she's ok and it didn't bother her or if her body hasn't digested it yet. She ate it around 6pm and it's almost 10pm now. Would she be showing any symptoms yet? |

I would breathe easier after 24 hours, and then 48 hours. As posted above, watch her closely for any signs of discomfort. If she has any at all, head straight to the vet. Keep us posted. |
