I missed this thread somehow and haven't read through to the end yet but I'm so sorry poor Callie is having so much trouble. I know how depressing and awful it is to have a dog who is refusing food and not acting normally. You worry something really bad is wrong and worry they won't get the energy and nutrition they need for the day. I worry Tibbe might get hypoglycemic or who knows what when he refuses food. Thankfully she's got a mommie who cares and will get to the bottom of it and eventually help her.

I had to go to stomach sensitive food for Tibbe when he kept doing this. The ONLY thing he doesn't get sick from, vomit and end up with diarrhea on is a combination of Hill's I/D GI and Hill's L/D Hepatic Canned - he can't even handle trying to change him from hepatic canned to hepatic kibble for a change. If we stray from that formula, he's sick, avoids all eating, spits up or vomits, is lethargic and lays around and it ends up in a loose stool or frank diarrhea. His first few years of life, he could and would eat all dog foods, green beans, bits of pizza crust, even the occasional tiny bite of meat here and there but boy, all of that changed as he approached age 3 - 4 years of age!

You might try her on Hill's I/D GI for a while and see how she does.

Ok so made sure she had a small snack before bed and there was no throwing up this morning just a regular poo :)

I put Jess's meds when shes on it in watermelon. Esp. liquid as the watermelon acts as a sponge. Maybe that would be lighter than cheese.. just a thought

I hope Callie feels better real soon !

I just wanted to mention, we feed Canidae grain free...the kibble is SMALL. And also, if you find a food that agrees with her and she enjoys...I read on YT some people use a hammer and smash kibbles into smaller bites :D

Well Callie was still having issues and it looks like she has IBD.

I am sorry to hear this. What did your vet recommend?

Special hypoallergenic food which luckily they have in small breed/small bites which is a big deal for Callie. She won't eat big bites. Also when the food comes in we need to go three months with her eating nothing else no treats, no chews nothing. We also have to keep a journal of her poos and if there is throwing up and when. We can also give 5 mg of Pepcid.

Mini gets a Pepcid each morning and each night. She has had similar problems for years. The Pepcid must be working because its been years and very seldom does she vomit anymore, very very seldom.


Vomiting like us irritates the esophagus etc., so don't be afraid to use the Pepcid.

Poor Callie! I hope she gets well soon.

Guinness was diagnosed with IBD at age 3, he is now 8 and doing very well with little to no setback on his RX diet. He was very much like Callie with the throwing up... we were told that throwing up means that the upper intestine is effected whereas diarrhea means it's the lower intestine.

The only thing that we had to change up was to keep him on the wet RX instead of the kibble because it was too hard on him. Being on wet food meant teeth brushing everyday and he wasn't to happy about it.

My little Ralphie has IBD, I found that if I introduce him to a new food, even a green bean, it has to be a tiny amount about 1/4 of an inch. I've built up his tolerance for foods by doing it slowly. I've found that stress really affects him and walking seems to calm him down and give him more confidence. We do give him Pepcid every night also, but he's really improved in the last year with no episodes of vomiting for over a year.

Praying that Callie gets on a road to recovery. Susan
