Thanks Vicki. I had not heard that...so sad. |
Jasmine and I are back home from Gulf Coast. They took more x-rays and also did a Cytology on her Lymph Node to see if the cancer has spread. She was given more pain meds to take in addition to the Rovera (Carprofen) and also more antibiotics. The news is pretty much what I've been told and what I've read. Surgery and Chemo will probably buy her 3-6 months at best. I am waiting on the results of the Cytology before I discuss options with the Oncologist and of course my DH. |
Joyce, I am keeping you and Jasmine in my thoughts and prayers. |
Aww Joyce, I am so sorry. My parents raised Boxers and every one of them developed some form of cancer in their later years, about 8 and up, none ever in the mouth. I am so sorry your girl is going through this. |
Sorry to hear about Jasmine. Hope the cancer has not spread. |
Update on Jasmine: Today I received a call from the Oncologist and the good news is that the cancer has not spread into her Lymph Nodes. We discussed Radiation Treatment and I asked the Oncologist if Jasmine were her 12 1/2 yr. old dog would she put her through the treatments. She said absolutely. She told me that Melanoma responds well to Radiation and that Jasmine's quality of life should not be compromised by it. She told me that she just put her 11 yr. old pup who had a brain tumor through radiation. (That made me feel a little better). I discussed all with my DH and he is leaving it up to me to decide. Well I received the estimate of cost and I have decided to go ahead with treatment. Jasmine is still eating, wagging her tail, going out to potty and doing most normal things for her age. I'd rather have no regrets, know I tried than to keep her on pain meds just to watch her decline and have to put her down. She goes in for a CT tomorrow and will hopefully have her 1st treatment on Monday. Jasmine has some hope. I'm not overly excited but there is hope and that is all I can ask for at this time. On the other hand I get home today and her face is more swollen than it was when I left this morning. I did call Gulf Coast and was only able to speak with the Oncologist. She couldn't explain what was going on with Jasmine's face but we both are sure that the tumor didn't grow that fast since this morning. IDK if Jasmine ate kibble since I leave it out for my other dogs and aggravated it or what? She said it shouldn't be a reaction to pain meds or antibiotics since it is located on the same side so I am confused. I searched the house for clues and nothing. She told they are open for emergencies but if I thought I could keep an eye on her than I could do that too. Not sure what is going on. I'm trying to decide Emergency Vet tonight or wait until appointment tomorrow morning. Ugh! |
I am sorry to see you go through this! It is just hard to make decisions when the patient can't express an opinion. I hope the night goes well and things are better in the morning. |

Thank you Shelly! I just read about your little Mylee and am praying that everything is ok with her. I will check back on your baby after Jasmines appointment tomorrow. Get some rest! |
Back home from Gulf Coast. First off thank God I didn't take off in my car with Jasmine last night! Twenty minutes into our trip this morning...a flat tire! They drew blood, did a CT scan and so many other things and even gave Jasmine her first radiation treatment. She's sleeping now and hopefully will be hungry after her rest. She and I are both glad to be back home. I'm really praying hard that the treatments help but I guess it's a wait and see thing. Trying to stay positive. |

Jasmine is very lucky to have a mom with such loving and admirable qualities. Your devotion to those under your care is very touching. I pray the treatment helps to give you much quality more time with Jasmine. |
