Poor little Deuce. I hope he recovers quickly. |
Poor Deuce, I hope he recovers quickly and the wound does not bother him while healing. |
2 Attachment(s) Deuce is doing fine. He ate his dinner and I was able to give him his antibiotic. His plumbing is working well so things look pretty good. It was a Cuterebra in his neck. It was a small larvae but there was a rather large inflamed area. The cut for removal is about an inch long. I didn't count the stitches yet. I have wound care twice daily with hot compresses and an antibiotic to apply. We go back in a week and stitches come out in two weeks. The vet has 30 years in Alexandria, VA. Only has seen about 6 of these worms in his practice. I think it was our mulch pile in the yard! He has two canine teeth extracted because they were loose and a cleaning. Two more teeth are questionable but we left them in to watch and see where we are with the next cleaning. I will have to step up his teeth hygiene and see if we can make a difference. He sat in the window and looked for his cats so he seems to be doing pretty good. Right now he's in his blue bed. That's serious sleeping so we'll see how he is tomorrow. BTW the stitches are in an awkward location so I knew I wouldn't be able to put on his harness. The vet didn't want me to put a collar on him. He's not going to be happy about all his potty needs on a pad. He only uses it when we're not home. Thanks for all your good wishes. Will keep you posted. |
Deuce is adorable. Very happy to hear all went well today, and that he ate dinner. Max and Teddy give him two paws up for being a champ. :) Wishing him a speedy recovery. |
1 Attachment(s) Deuce is doing very well this morning. He went potty outside first thing this morning. His plumbing is working well. I decided to split up his food and give him some this morning since we are giving him an oral antibiotic twice daily and have pain meds once a day for 3 days. He is not barking so I think his throat must be sore from the anesthesia. He usually starts barking at the cat next door at 6 AM. As you can see from the pic he is looking for his friend out there!!! I'll do the wound care a little later once I'm sure the pain meds are working. Deuce says, "Thanks for all your get well wishes." |
It's great to see him up and about! WTG Deuce! |
So glad to see Deuce up and around!! BTW...BEAUTIFUL GARDEN!! |
glad all went well and get well fast lil deuce of cuteness!! crazy how that happened glad you were quick to react. it makes my skin crawl thinking of it. lol eww. |
Lmbooo his 'plumbing'! :D Hope Deuce never endures this ever again! I will faint if this happens to one of mine...very squirmy when it comes to worms & bugs & the creepy crawlies. |
I am glad to hear Deuce is feeling better and back to work on perimeter patrol. The pictures are so adorable. |
Deuce is always so adorable and beautiful. I'm so glad he's doing better. I hope you've recovered from such a scary ordeal. |
That's terrific that all went well! He is adorable! :) |
Happy to hear and see that Deuce is doing very well and was at his window at 6 am. :) |
I hope deuce is ok, bot flies will burrow under horses skin particularly in their legs- is this the same fly? Tis the season for ivermectin! I hope everything went okay Nd look forward to an update :nervous: |
Came by to check and see how he was doing! Glad all is well. What a cute guy! |
Great to hear that Deuce is on the mend! :) |
Good to hear that all is well and that the lump was nothing serious although larva using your boy as a living host is no small thing, yuck !! |
Glad to hear all is well. What an experience! Yikes! |
Deuce is back to his old self. On perimeter watch by 6 a.m., started barking yesterday and playing ball in the house before dinner. I don't want him playing ball outside since he has the stitches in his chest. We'll give him the pain meds one more day and just continue with the wound care. Since the location of the would is right were his harness would be I've been walking him using a show lead from my Shih-Tzu Maxwell. He was my first dog and hobby before children. The lead is over 35 years old and still does the job!!!!! Heck the leather lead I use on Deuce's harness is over 35 years old too. It's so soft and perfect. I'm really proud of Deuce listening to me telling him to walk slow and walking on a loose leash. Maybe I should use that lead more often. Maybe there is still hope for obedience training for him! |
Im glad he is doing better |
Great job Deuce walking nicely on the show lead! Glad to hear he is back to all of regular duties, patrolling the perimeter. :) |
I am glad to hear deuce is recovering well :) I noticed my post from page one ended up on page three and that a couple of posts are doubled up but not next to eAchother- is this just my glitch or is anyone else experiencing some thread oddities here?... |
Just now seeing this and glad to hear it's all behind Deuce. Yucky looking thing on his little chest and am so glad it's been treated and he's doing well again. I'm so sorry your poor baby had to go through all of this. |
Glad Deuce is feeling better, keep us posted. |
So glad he is feeling better. |
This made me so weak in the knees and then I saw the adorable pics of him...so happy Deuce is doing better...I have never heard of this before, thanks for sharing your story. |
We see the vet tomorrow for a post op visit. His wound looks great but they said the stitches need to stay for two weeks so another week to go. They look ready to me. But how do they take them out? Snip and pull????? Uggghhh poor boy. He is a tough little guy though. Let you know what happens after the visit tomorrow evening. |
Happy to hear Deuce is healing well. Wishing him a good checkup with the vet today. I don't know about the stitches on dogs, but I've had stitches removed from my thumb and chin, and it was painless. :) |
Deuce is looking great and will have the stitches removed next Wednesday. Yay!!!!!! |
3 Attachment(s) Stitches are out and hair is growing back in. I wish the hair on his leg would grow more quickly. They shaved it when he had the surgery. They gave him such a "poodle paw". Of course I had to post a few pics of my boy. The last one is the typical "Morning Mess". |
