Suddenly sick hello, Zoey is a 6 1/2 year old female yorkie who is not spayed. She humps a lot but I took her to the vet a few weeks ago and the vet checked her out and said some dogs are just prone to that and it was nothing to worry about. However, just to be cautious she put her antibiotics which she finished up about a week ago, which changed nothing it was humping as usual. I got home from work about 5 hours ago and she was great, greeted me as usual, wanted to play however as I started cooking dinner she went into her dog bed and I could tell she was sick. Typically she and my other dog are at my feet begging for food the entire time I'm cooking. I noticed she was really red around her female area along with a rash along her leg. She went and got under the covers in my bed and laid there for about an hour and I went to check on her and she started developing blisters on her belly. They seem to have just popped up out of nowhere! She just took a drink of water about minutes ago and then threw it straight back up and now she's cuddled under the covers on the couch. She seems to be warm like she has a fever and she's shaking lightly but none of her behaviors are too worrying as of yet. My husband took the dogs for a walk around 4 and when he came back he stopped to talk to a neighbor and said she went under a car, probably for shade (we live in an apartment complex). He said her bottom half was wet when she came out from under it so he brought her in and bathed her promptly with the normal dog shampoo we use on them regularly. Other than this we can't think of anything that could be wrong with her and she seems to have come down with this suddenly. anyone have any similar experiences? all of our internet searches seem to yield nothing similar. Here are the pictures... warnings in advance they are not nice. http://i57.tinypic.com/110bo7t.jpg http://i59.tinypic.com/1zwj91d.jpg |
Hi and welcome to YT. I'd get this girl to a vet ASAP! The reason I say this is bc she obviously reacted to something SO quickly and bc she was under a car - she very well could've licked antifreeze which tastes sweet and dogs want to lick it - it's EXTREMELY toxic and will/can kill easily. I'd get to the vet FAST if this were my dog. I'm very worried for your girl. |
I don't have any experience with this but I am sure someone will jump in with insight. I would definitely say get her to a vet immediately, I wouldn't wait. |
Zoey needs to be seen by a vet ASAP!!! |

Dont give any more of the antibiotic until seen by vet.... |
Thanks for all the replies. My husband stayed up with her until 5 a.m. and there was no more throwing up, she had some water around that time and kept it down. She had more at 8 a.m. and kept that down as well but she seems to be struggling to walk on her back legs. She has an appointment at 11:15 so just a little under 2 hours. I got absolutely no sleep last night fingers crossed it's nothing too terrible. |
Get this baby to Vet ASAP !!! Those are horrible looking blisters and something is very wrong with her. |
Those pictures look painful! I hope you've gone to the vet for help. Please post an update. |

I hope to hear something soon! Poor little one! |
wow this is such an incredibly supportive community, thank you all for your concern! The vet said it was all probably caused by her reproductive organs since she is not spayed which caused the inflammation/swelling, licking which led to an infection which led to the blisters. He gave her 3 different shots, an antibiotic shot, one for the swelling and a third one I think for the irritation. We are planning on getting her spayed this summer for sure. My husband is at home with her and said she's already much more lively and moving about so I'm so so so relieved, I was hardly able to focus at work this morning! |
Update please!!!!! |
Very worried about this one. Hope we hear what the vet says soon. |
dog It looks to me to be an allergic reaction to the med. I would definitely get that dog to the vet. I pray it will be a problem that medicine can fix. |
Is Zoey okay??? |
