Thinking of Marcel, happy to see he's feeling better. Praying his congestion has improved also, poor baby. |
Marcel did much better yesterday, yay! Only some mild events of congestion that didn't get in the way too much. I got in touch w/ Mike, and he said Eddie had sneezing/nasal symptoms for a good while afterward too. I called our vet as well, and they said some irritation is normal for some dogs, and that Marcel would be vulnerable to that bc of how super tiny his nasal passages are. All in all, I think we're on the right path...and am hoping all symptoms will resolve soon. GEESH these foxtails are just *nasty*!!! |
Holy noses, that's awful, I can't imagine how uncomfortable he was/is poor baby. Glad he is getting better! |

Great news! I was worried for him... these things are akin to a bullet as to how they travel through the body! |

I've been PMing Ann about this, but in short: Eddie got into foxtails once when we were camping, and his symptoms were periodic sneeze attacks. I never saw anything in his nostrils. Vet wanted to treat with antibiotics, but I'd read the scary articles and went to another vet for a more aggressive approach of flushing the nose with an expensive scope. Unfortunately, the vet found nothing and the sneezing continued, only this time with blood from the irritation from the scope. I was helpless, so I went with the first vet's advice and treated with antibiotics. Two weeks later, he was back to normal. Sending my best to Marcel. It's scary but it can turn out OK. |
^^ Good to know, Mike. Are foxtails a particular kind of grass? We have run into things that resemble foxtails but they are in regular lawns that were left to grow too long and dried up. Are these as dangerous? |
Are you sure he's not having an allergic reaction to something? Food, a particular cleaner you may be using? Hope he feels better soon. |

Here's a video I made at the time of Eddie's incident. At the end, it shows the type of foxtail I'm talking about. These are green; the ones Eddie got into were drier and more brittle. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H3UnFMSJvBo |
Well, Marcel is on a round of amoxicillin. He had 3 congestion episodes yesterday where he couldn't breathe through his nose, along with some drainage from his nose -- so I called the vet again and he decided to do a round of antibiotics. This might be a good thing, bc like Mike said - this helped Eddie get past his nasal symptoms too. Lol, I can't believe I'm even *still* posting about this! All this over a little piece of plant! Who knew? |
