I am very concerned. Gizmo did not eat much today...only about two tablespoons of food in the morning and then nothing the rest of the day. :( I have a doc appt tomorrow but I think I need to cancel it and go spend some time with Gizmo. Poor little guy might be upset about being there. Last time he did ok but I did visit with him. I think it does mean a lot to them. It is just that he is so frail to begin with...just really has me worried. I know it is early on but I was hopeful it was caught early and he would be out of there quickly. |

Poor Gizmo. Praying he does better today, Monday. It's such a tough thing needing to be in the hospital, but also needing the comfort of home and mom. |

While stress can be factor, I don't think you need to worry that a single grooming session will put Tibbe at risk. What I was thinking when I wrote that it worries me is that Teddy is my little oddball compared to my Tonka truck Max. Hard to explain, but I wouldn't be surprised if Teddy was diagnosed someday with pancreatitis. |
He's likely wondering where you are and just not as sure as he could be he's entirely safe and secure. A visit for a good swatch of time and take him his favorite blankie or cuddle toy or an old t-shirt of yours might perk him right up and remind him of his home, give him hope. He'd likely take his food from your hand and eat something, too. If you can R/S that appt., I believe I'd try to do it and spend some time with a little boy who might be feeling a bit alone. I'll be praying tomorrow is a good day for him and that you two can get to spend some time together. |

I wonder if an acutely stressful grooming session adversely affects MVD the same way it could affect pancreatitis? I don't think I've ever read of it but just wondered. Because I think Tibbe might not like being groomed by a stranger with a clipper but on the other hand, he loves going to the vet & doesn't seem to mind shots, rectal temperatures, nail clipping, blood drawing or anything they do to him there. He's totally amped to be there and not stressed except by his excitement. He whines and leans forward to get in the door! But he's never scared, frightened or anxious acting there. |
Jeanie, Maybe use a mobile groomer or one that will groom him in your home. That way he's not in a cage with a bunch of barking dogs around him all day. |
sending prayers the little guy is better soon |

Does you vet's office offer grooming services? That would be ideal. If not, explain to the groomer your personal situation and ask if they would be willing to do a scheduled appointment that wouldn't require you to sit and wait for a long time. Or as Kathy suggested, use a mobile groomer. Stress and diarrhea -- that is what happened to Teddy when my brother visited. |
Hoping Gizmo is doing better today. Maybe his pancreas needed a bit more R&R... Jeanie: You can always request a scissor cut for Tibbe if he doesn't care for the clippers. And tell them he has a sensitive tummy when he gets upset, and if they could schedule during a quieter time of day. |
Prayer's for Gizmo. Poor Gizmo so sorry he is so sick, I am keeping him in my prayer's hoping he recover's quickly. I'm sure he misses mommy hope you can spend some time with him. Hoping he get's home soon. Anne/Luci |
hoping Gizmo is feeling better. |
Checking in for any news on little Gizmo. I hope he's been able to eat today, bless his heart. So hopeful he's better by now and still praying for him. |
Don't want to hi-jack Linda's thread about poor Gizmo so I will check out the groomer at the vet's office and see about being there while he's groomed. He's never been to a groomer before so this would be his first time. He loves all people that I okay for him and loves visiting and going out and about to the vet and stores, etc., so I don't THINK he'll be that bad but I don't want him unduly stressed by the clippers and come home ill or anxiety-ridden and maybe getting diarrhea. Hopefully the vet groomer can help us out. Thanks, ya'll and sorry, Linda. |
Oh No! Poor Gizmo!! Praying while waiting for update. |
Gizmo is home! :) He ate yesterday....the person who gave me that information yesterday evening was not very accurate. The specialist asked who I had spoken to, but I did not remember. All that worrying. Oh well...important thing is that he is ok. Now, here's the scoop. He did not have a severe fulminating case of pancreatitis. His diagnosis is "enteritis" which could be many different things. His cPL was 500 which is elevated but not severe and the ultrasound had shown mild pancreatic inflammation. She said that any enteritis could cause that and also the fact that he has chronic pancreatitis would do it. He could have IBD which might also explain his intolerance to that home cooked diet...the only way to know is to scope and biopsy and he is 13 years old and frail and there really is no reason to do it. She said that we can treat as if...and that she wants me to work with the nutritionist. Urinary SO is much too high fat for him. So...that is the game plan! I have sent another email to the nutritionist. I just fed him some RC gastro diet and he ate very well! So happy to see him looking so much better ! :) Thank you everyone for your support!!! It's so nice that people care so much. |
I'm thrilled Gizmo is so much better he's home and on a friendlier diet for his system. Bless his little heart - I'll bet he sighed a big sigh as soon as he realized he was home again and got settled in his bed. I know he's happier tonight! And you are too, Linda. Good going, Gizmo! |
Yay Gizmo! Glad you're feeling better and back home! |
Yay glad he's home :) |
Great news! :) I'm so happy to know Gizmo's home! Thank goodness he's feeling well enough to enjoy his new diet also. I'm praying with a little more rest and a little TLC, he'll continue to recover quickly. Bless his heart, he's been through so much. Linda, please take care of yourself too! ;) |
So glad that Gizmo is home. Zoey is on RC Gastro and is doing just fine except that she is hungry more often. It is low fat so I have had to increase the portion I give her because she lost weight and she is only 5+ lbs as it is. If she gets hungry she will barf up bile so I have to feed her several times per day. So, keep an eye on Gizmo to see that he doesn't lose weight on the diet. |
What wonderful news! I'm so glad to hear he's home and feeling so much better! Yay Gizmo! |
I am very happy to hear that Gizmo is back home and continuing to improve. Praying he has a peaceful evening and enjoys hearing about all the backyard action that he missed. ;):) |
yay good news |

I'm so glad Gizmo is better and at home. It so terrible when these little guys are sick. My little Elsy would have bouts of pancreatitis when I was going back and forth to help take care of my dad and was gone too long to suit her. The vet put her on the rx lowfat intestinal diet and that is all she gets but she still has a tendency to get sick if I'm away too long. My vet think it is stress related. |
