I cut Teddy's beard recently. We decided he is cuter with the shorter beard. I can see his little smile better.

Thanks Kristin. I also like the shorter beard to see their smiles better. Also, when Meika has a long beard, it always is wet and messy looking cause she drinks so much water and gets her whole face in.

I do sometimes miss her beautiful long red coat, but don't think I'll grow it out again.

Thanks Linda. So far things are pretty normal, with 4 days of insulin shots down. I'm anxious to see the results of the insulin curve testing on Monday, and to learn how to do testing at home with the glucometer that I ordered.

I'm continuing to learn so much about canine diabetes, and will share more soon. Luckily, it is not as prevalent in Yorkies as it is in other breeds. It is more common in Mini Schnauzers, and I raised 4 of them without any having DM.

Giving the insulin shots is no big deal, and I am just SOOO happy that she was diagnosed before it affected her vision. Some go blind very quickly from cataracts.

Thank you so much. Meika was more glamorous with her long hair, but her short cut is very perky and sporty. Very different, like girls who go from long flowing hair to a pixie.

I do need to take more pics of all my girls. I got lazy and frustrated trying to get all 4 of them in photos at one time. I will get back into it soon.

I'm curious how the glucose testing goes...I was never very lucky at getting a sample to test. Do you know what site you'll be using? My vet suggested the ear...it was hard for me to do. Hope you do better...keep us posted, please. I've been praying for her.

Haha! Two of mine won't even sit still for a pic, I have to sneak up on them or have DH use his phone! or me using a telephoto lens... I'm going to resort to Photoshopping them to look like they're all together, lol!

Yes, Photoshopping sounds like a good idea sometimes. I have lots of pics of the dogs with people, but need to take more of them alone. Soon....

Meika still doesn't have a clue anything is wrong, and she isn't drinking and peeing as much as she did a week ago, so I hope that means the insulin is working.

Monday when she has the all day glucose curve testing, we will know for sure if the dose needs to be adjusted. Dr C said with her glucose so high to begin with, she will likely need more than the intro dose of 3 units 2x/day.

I got more insulin today at Costco Pharmacy... did I mention Meika has her own Rx discount card there now? Now I need to see if I can enroll her in Obama care, haha.

Thanks Kathy. Meika seems just fine, and hopefully Monday we will know for sure if the insulin dose is correct. I've given her shots twice a day with a meal, 12 hrs. apart, for 5 days now, so it has become routine. I haven't changed her diet yet.

All she knows about shots is that after she eats I put her on the counter, brush her a little and give her a treat. She doesn't even know I give her a shot.... she's just waiting for that treat.

I am happy to hear things are working out. It takes time to get over the initial shock of a sick pup....I am sometimes overwhelmed with new things and then it just seems to get easier.
Sounds like she is doing better if the water intake and output have leveled out. Certainly hope so!

Well so far so good, hope it continues. Really insulin needles are so tiny, it doesn't surprise me that she doesn't even notice. Just giving her a little extra love!!! Don't worry if the dose needs adjusting, that is totally normal and ongoing. Have you begun checking her glucose yet? Curious how that goes, hope you have better luck with it then I did...with Winston. Keep me posted...more well wishes being sent from Illinois to Hawaii!!!

I was overwhelmed at first, with many other things going on at that time it really knocked me down. I'm getting used to it, and still curious as to what her dose will be, and if they are not able to get her glucose down, then we will test for Cushings. I sure hope I don't have to treat for both, but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

It's hard to tell how much she is drinking as all 4 share the water bowl, but I'm not having to fill it more than once a day. She hasn't peed in my bedroom at night for a while, and in the daytime she goes outside, so again, I'm not sure of volume.
