I am somewhat puzzled because all they have to do is just fill the dropper halfway, open her mouth a teeney bit and squirt. They can do this while she is in the cage, it doesn't seem like there would be much manipulation at all. This doctor is the pits, and I will call my holistic dr. to try to talk to her. I think even I could do this without too much stress to her, it would only take a second, not even. What are they talking about? I am so annoyed and stressed.
Excuse me for being so cranky, but this doctor does not like homeopathic medicine and I am very stressed. Especially since there is no improvement from yesterday.
Blessings to all,
Love Shellie:confused:
PS-The 3X every 10 minutes is just a loading dose, it only happens once, then it is 4 drops every 4 hours for 3 to 5 days.

Sending love and prayers. Many Vets are wary of giving homeopathic medicine when treating an animal as they are concerned about possible interactions/complications. Some view it a bunk and will dismiss any homeopathic treatment. I have been juggling between the recommendations of my homeopathic Vet (my homeopathic Vet does not have x-ray or surgical equipment) and my western Vet in my dealings with Buster. So I try to balance their differing views but I have not had to deal with such a difficult illness. My heart goes out to you.
Perhaps there is another Vet in the practice that you can approach and discuss your concerns/wishes and see what their objections are to the medicine.
Hugs, prayers and best wishes to you Shellie, Muffin, and especially Cassie

Hello all,
Yes, Buster Brown, you are right, some doctors, such as the one I am dealing with now, are afraid of interactions with other meds, and I too have a homeopathic Vet that does not have x-ray or other kinds of traditional western medicine equipment. She swears though, that the tinctures that she is giving me can in now way harm Cassie, no matter what traditional meds she is on, as the home tincture I am giving her is energy medicine, something the western Vets just don't understand. With that said, most of the Vet that I deal with there are completely open to giving this to Cassie, and have done so before. As a matter of fact, the main owner of this facility knows my holistic Vet very well, as they went to school together and respect each other and communicate with each other often. And the other Vets at this facility have respected my wishes as well. It is only this particular Vet that has a problem with this and finds reasons not to give these meds to Cassie. I am no longer stressing over this though, as I spoke with my holistic Vets office tech and she did not seem to upset about it, said she would be okay taking it when she got home.
However when I called tonight, they tell me that Cassie was on room air for 4 hours and doing well, and then they put her back on O2 again, not because she was needing it at the time, as she was doing well on room air as long as she wasn't handled, but because they put another dog in her O2 cage who needed Oxygen and they divided the case in half with a metal screen. Tell me this is not going to stress her out! I am so upset I cannot even think straight. They have another O2 Cage, but it has a Cat in it who is larger than Cassie, so they put the new dog in Cassie's cage. I feel bad for the other dog, but this is not right. I mean Cassie was just about being weaned off of O2, and now they are taking the dog out of her cage and putting him in with the cat because they saw how upset I was. Now they are going to have to start weaning her off again. I hope they are not going to just pull her out of there without weaning her again. I'm freaked!!!! Am I wrong for being upset? I mean, I am about to lose it. I need your words of wisdom, please tell me if I am wrong. I feel like my BP is 300 :(:mad:

broodizt 09-06-2013 07:28 PM

Also, this Vet is on duty 4 days a week, so there is no other Vet I can ask to handle Cassie on the 4 days she is on, she is the only Vet available for in house patients.

I just read all about your little Cassie, my heart is breaking for you both. I am praying hard for you to witness a miracle here, it hurts to know she is so ill and that you are being stressed about her care. Stay strong for her, remember you are her voice. I hope the vets have the ability to heal her completely. I agree with you, she deserves to feel well, thrive and live a long, happy life. Please try to get some rest yourself, she needs you to be your best. Again I'll pray for her health...her life.

Whenever we use antibiotics, we also use a probiotic. There's one you can sprinkle on their food.

I don't like that my old vet didn't believe in homeopathic medicine, and switched vets because of it.

AbbysMom08 09-07-2013 10:23 AM

I'm just reading this thread.
I'm sorry your little one is so sick.
I'm keeping both of you in my prayers.

Update

The Vet called today and stated that Cassie had been out of O2 since yesterday afternoon and they want to send her home today, even though they say that she is perfectly fine if you don't touch her, but starts to turn blue when she is being handled by staff. Isn't there something wrong with this picture? Should they be sending her home if she is still turning blue outside of the oxygen cage when she is handled? I am so worried. Why would they suggest she go home with symptoms like that? I told them I would have to come in and handle her myself to see if she started to turn blue, and if she did, I was not taking her home. What do you think?

I think that your plan to check and see if Cassie turns blue before taking her home is a very sensible thing to do. Perhaps the vet thought that Cassie would be less stressed at home? Be sure to ask the vet plenty of questions.

You poor thing!!!! Please keep us posted!

OwnedByJezebel 09-07-2013 01:31 PM

I would be concerned, too. If she turns blue when being handled, what will the car ride home do to her? I am so sorry you and Cassie are dealing with this.

wemple2 09-07-2013 03:19 PM

The only way I would be taking her home is if she is not struggling to breathe
without the O2. Yes she may be more comfortable at home in familiar surroundings, but not if she can't breathe. My thoughts are with you and my prayers with Cassie.

MauiGirl 09-07-2013 03:35 PM

I am so sorry for the continuing problems with Cassie, and that you are faced with hard decisions.

Is there any way to create a temp/portable O2 cage or tent for her in case she's at home and does turn blue?

Patti 09-07-2013 04:25 PM

I don't blame you for being upset. I wouldn't take her home unless she is able to breathe normally whether she handled or not. I hope she will be fine once she is home with you.

kjc 09-07-2013 04:35 PM

The vet may have been not willing to give liquid oral meds due to the risk of aspiration, which increases if the dog is stressed. As she's already having respiratory problems, it may be a wise decision, IDK.

Hope she stays all pink for you! and can come home!

Limited update

Hi every one. I'm so exhausted I can't keep my eyes open. Went to see her today and she was rasping and gasping, shaking and coughing, panting, etc.
I refused to take her home, even though they say she is out of oxygen and is fine if she is not handled. Then when she got excited when they gave her to me, and she started to have distress, they said her breathing was effected because she was excited to see me. I even gave her some time to calm down, which she did for a while, and then the whole thing started up all over again. In fact, the doctor was indeed sending me home with liquid ABX, and also even a pill. She was ready to discharge her home until I refused to take her home. I told them, she may be out of O2, but she is not well enough to come home if I can't touch her without her turning blue. Will go to see her tommorrow and if she is not well by tomorrow night, at least I know I have a couple of doctors who I love and respect and will help me to sort this thing out, who will be on duty for the next three days starting tommorrow night. Anyway I am exhausted an I need to go. Will update later.

kjc 09-07-2013 07:35 PM

Praying for you both tonight, and hoping better results for tomorrow... try to get some good rest tonight.

Yorkiemom1 09-07-2013 08:35 PM

I commend you for NOT being coersed into taking a very ill puppy home...In MY opinion, they are trying to free up that O2 tent for that other animal that came in and they didnt have enough equipment to treat the cat, so they bunked your baby with the sick cat.....absolutely atrocious!!! So now, if they say your baby is not requiring O2, and she can go home, if she gets into trouble again, and you rush her back in, they wont have an O2 tent for YOU!!!! If at all possible, I would seriously be thinking of moving my baby to a vet school....and do NOT let them sedate your baby in order to "calm her down"....you will get into issues with respiratory acidosis/alkalosis, and that will spiral all out of control and it could end up killing your baby.....I speak from first hand experience....years ago, a vet killed my little Qui Sae doing that very thing.....

One of the owners of Oscar Newman had this for her Chihuahua. She was O2 to bring home and they made a tent out of plastic. Here is the Facebook post about Maggie: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?f...type=1&theater

Praying for your little Cassie.

Connie 09-07-2013 09:50 PM

Praying for your precious girl. I'm glad you didn't take her home. Why would they send a baby home that turns blue when handled. I hope tomorrow looks much brighter for you and Cassie!

Cherie6446 09-08-2013 07:18 AM

Frankly, I'm shocked that they would even consider sending Cassie home. Have they done new x-rays to check her lungs got improvement? Something stinks here.

broodizt 09-08-2013 09:16 AM

She's taken a step back! Pray for Cassie

The overnight doctor called this morning and said they repeated x-rays and she has taken a step back. She is back in 40% oxygen, although she is not as bad as she was when I first brought her in. They say that she does have a moderately enlarged heart so she may have CHF, the treatment of which is a diuretic like lasix. They still don't know what it is. They are doing another x-ray within the hour. Pray for Cassie!!!!

MauiGirl 09-08-2013 09:19 AM

Praying for Cassie and you.

Maximo 09-08-2013 09:20 AM

Praying for Cassie. I'm glad you insisted on keeping her in the hospital.

Bellabean 09-08-2013 09:34 AM

Still praying for Cassie!

broodizt 09-08-2013 10:51 AM

Called for update, new x-rays show some improvement with diuretic. They will continue to keep her on O2 and diuretic.

Sammy Mommy 09-08-2013 11:27 AM

I hope the diuretic helps. Praying for your sweet Cassie, and you too.
