You should find out what kind of hernia it is. The most common are either umbilical or inguinal (in the groan area). If it is a small hernia then I would not be to concerned. Most vets will say just watch it and once the pup is old enough to be neutered then it can be repaired then. Sometimes the umbilical hernia will just turn out to be trapped fatty tissue and not a true hernia. I do feel the breeder should sell the pup at a reduced price because of the hernia. In my 16 years of breeding I have had 5 pups that had hernias. Two were inguinal and three were umbilical. The three umbilical hernias turned out to be just trapped fatty tissue and not a true hernia. One boy with the inguinal hernia had his hernia close on its own and one tiny girl with a inguinal hernia I gave to my daughter and it was mostly closed on it's own but the vet went ahead and repaired it when the pup was spayed at 8 months. |

Shellie, he is absolutely adorable, and I can see why you fell in love already. There are others more qualified to answer than me about a hernia, I only know that my daughter's dog (King Charles Cavalier) had one and was fixed at 8 weeks by the breeder, but that is a little larger dog. I love the name Nugget, and FYI I really don't like the name Socrates for personal reasons. He looks like a little Nugget. I am SOOOO happy you are open to sharing your love with another little fur kid, and you are in no way being disrespectful to Muffy. She would have wanted you and Cassie to have another little love-bug around. More than anything, I hope you end up with a healthy pup, as you have gone through too much already with your 2. |
Decisions...decisions. What to do? I agree, find out what kind of hernia this is, ask for her vet to put in writing, their opinion. Take this to your vet and ask their opinion as well. If you decide to proceed and get this baby...go immediately to your vet to get checked out. As hard as it will be, if your vet discourages you...return the pup and keep looking for your perfectly healthy baby. Do you know if the breeder has done any testing on the parents, genetically? He is a real heart stealer...simply adorable. But I'd hate for you to get too attached to him and then not keep him. Best of luck to you. Oh, I forgot to add...I love the name Nugget. |
Hello Angels, :D Great News! Breeder took him to the Vet-and guess what, NO HERNIA!! The Vet said that he couldn't feel a thing and he passed his exam with flying colors. I'm soooooo relieved. We tentatively arranged for pick up next Tuesday, but she says she might want to keep him a bit longer if she has any concerns about his eating. She will let me know on Monday. She said if I do take him and there is a problem with him eating, she would always take him back and keep him longer until he gets it together. So we'll see. Still exploring names. This is such a dilemma LOL :D Now I'm thinking maybe Oliver, or Thor :-). This is fun, I have to say. |
I am SOOOO happy for you. This definitely deserves a new thread. It won't be long until you are covered in puppy kisses. I'm sure the right name will come to you once you have him around a while. One name I love for boys is Milo. |
hmmmm that IS CUTE....might have to consider this too!!! LOL!!!!! Quote:

This is great news!!! How old is your little guy? I have many favorite names, but honestly, I believe the name will come to you once you have him home...and it'll just "fit". |

He sure is a little cutie. Hope Cassie will welcome him. |
I know--LOL--but it is such a relief to play around for a bit, and such fun. It's been soooo long since I've had fun....:D Quote:

They are really cute names also, but I think I like Milo. Very cute name. Also like Oliver. Such a tough decision!!!!! Milo is really cute Quote:

I believe he's between 3 and four months. She says I can have him as early as next week, because she knows I know how to take care of the little ones, and if there is a problem she says I can always bring him back and she will keep him longer till he's got his stuff together. Or I can leave him a couple of weeks longer. She actually charges a boarding fee past a certain point. I never heard of this before. That's a first for me. I might go for taking him home next week to see how he does unless she thinks he's really not ready, and if I am at all worried or concerned, I'll bring him back. If she feels strongly he's not ready I would never take him. She's mainly worried abut him missing his litter mates, but Cassie will be there, so there's that! I'm taking it day by day. Quote:

Oh so glad to hear that you've opened your heart to this little guy. He is so precious!!! I should be working right now but when I saw my e-mail concerning your post I had to log on to YT and see what you are up to and to tell you to enjoy every second of this new adventure. Have fun picking out his name! I could come up with a lot of names and there are list every where but something meaningful and special to you and him is more fitting. This just makes my day!!!!!! :) |
Well my breeder wants to hold on to him longer, so I also have between 13 and 16 days before I can bring our little guy home. So excited!!!:D Quote:

Well, I can hardly wait, so I know you are excited. Hope Cassie will love her new buddy! I really like the name Nugget, but you need to see when you have him. - sometimes the right name just comes to you. |
I really think this deserves a new thread! |

New Thread Okay Angels, I'm finally going to post a new thread. I've been wanting to do this for a while now but I couldn't think if how to notify everyone that it was happening what the name was where to meet under that forum. Isn't that silly? It just came to me this minute that all I have to do is post a message on this thread that I'm starting a new thread, the name and forum to find it, and it will pop up on everyone who has ever subscribed to this thread's mailbox, just like any other post I've posted. I'm so dumb :D So here is the new thread I am going to post: Cassie's Angels and We're EXPECTING: New family member MILO (I think this will be his name) LOL :D Think I'll post on General Discussion for now. See you there. :-) |
Will post in General Discussion |
Ho do I post a link to that thread? Anyone know? :) |

Me too! And I'm not even looking for a puppy:) haha I really think that all the free advice/info that everyone gives out here, and without any personal gain I might add, which comes from the overflowing love of YTers, is just dandy!! Wow, haven't used that word in quite some time. haha Does that date me?:D I continue to learn on here. Thanks to all! Wishing you the best of luck in your decision on Nugget. Still not an easy one to make, but with the info you have been given, it may make it easier for you. I certainly hope that if you do get Nugget, that it won't cost you huge, in the wallet and in the heart. ps: I still really like the name Nugget:):aimeeyork Cheers! |
