Help! Have you ever seen a lump on gums like this?? 3 Attachment(s) Hello everyone. It's been a while since I've been on here, and I need some input because I'm going crazy here. Can anyone tell me if they've ever seen anything like this on their furbaby's gums? It's a bump right on his gum at his two front teeth. I'm sick over this - just found it tonight. I will call the vet tomorrow for an appointment but am looking for answers in the meantime. Rocco has absolutely no symptoms, no pain, no problems eating, and there's nothing wrong with his teeth that I know of. He's been very healthy and just had a check up about 2 months ago. Not sure how long this has been here, but my son noticed it tonight. Please let me know if you have any ideas. Thank you! |
I can't see the pics very well. ..prob my notebook.. ..but when my Honey had a lump onher gums.. .it was an abscess. .. hope its nothing serious.. .but I'd Def have it checked out! |
Poor boy. Not sure what that would be. Probably something dental related as Wabbit indicated. Definitely need to see the vet. Sending best wishes for little Rocco. Keep us updated. |
What a worry! It looks uncomfortable. Sorry I have no advice or info, but I will pray for sweet Rocco! Bless his heart! |
My Airedale had one that looked just like that .. It was a Tumor, the Vet removed it and thankfully it was non cancerous. It never did grow back either.. |
It looks like some sort of granuloma. I would definitely get him to the vet it may be benign but better safe than sorry. Good luck |
Thanks for all of the advice, I really appreciate it. I'm praying it's nothing serious. My vet is closed today for the long weekend :( I will take him in first thing Tuesday, unless you think it's an emergency situation? Again, he has no pain, is eating well, and absolutely no change in behavior. I touch his mouth and his gums and he doesn't even flinch. |
I think you are okay to wait until your regular vet is open. The lump looks to be the same color as his gums, so I think that is a good sign. Probably a dental issue or a benign mass that needs to come out. Praying for little Rocco that it will be something easy to fix. |
You could call around in your area and see if there is a vet opened today. Taking a four day vacation seems a bit much to me for a vet. It doesn't look like an emergency but I would want something done now. |
Hoping you can find out what is going on today and find out what it will take to get it out of there. Poor baby - hope it's nothing bad. Couldn't see it very well but I think I did. It looked large unless I was seeing the wrong thing. Update as you can. |

I agree.. ..as long as he's eating OK.. .can't imagine it would be a big deal waiting a few more days.. let us know what happens please! |
I have no idea what that might be and beings it doesn't seem to be bothering him, I'd think waiting is safe. Watch him, if you notice any signs of distress...go to the ER. Most likely this has been there for awhile and was just noticed. If it were an abscess, I'd think it would be painful to touch and he wouldn't be able to eat normally. I'll say a prayer for him and hope it's something easily treated. Try to relax, I know our minds go in overdrive whenever something is amiss. |

I would watch it closely....if it is an abcessed tooth you would want to get antibiotics started. I dont think it is an emergent situation, but if it changes at all or gets sore and affects his eating, I would take him in. |
Called Tufts this weekend, explained the situation, and they said if he's eating well and in no pain they would recommend waiting till today. Called my vet this a.m., and have an appoinmtent at 5:00 this afternoon. Sick just thinking about what it could be. Good news is it's not larger and nothing has changed at all. He's still being a little monkey and eating and playing as usual. I pray my little guy will be ok and this will be a simple fix. :( |
Hope all goes well today & it's nothing serious! |
Hoping for a good update, what did the vet think? Fingers crossed...prayers said. |
Pleas keep us updated |
Went to the vet today, and he said it is an epulis - a common oral tumor that is usually non-cancerous. However, he has to have it surgically removed and biopsied; if it has grown into the bone, they may need to remove some teeth and jawbone  I am praying it's tissue only and doesn't affect his front teeth. I feel absolutely awful, wondering how long this has been there and if I should have caught it sooner. Anyhow, he is scheduled for surgery on September 25. I will update. |
Sorry to hear that. Cali just last month had a tumor on her lip removed. They were concerned it was a melanoma. It was a benign growth and she did really well after surgery. I will keep him in my prayers. |
Don't beat yourself up! You caught it when you did, luckily not any later. Everything is going to be fine! Prayers your way to you and your furbaby! |
I'l pray hard for him, hope it is just tissue and nothing else. I'm thinking if it involved more than that he would be showing signs of pain or discomfort. Didn't you say he recently had a check up? My vet checks Winston's teeth during check up visits. If so I think this is pretty recent...regardless, I'm praying they are able to remove it and keep his smile!!! |
Sept 25? Why so far into the month? It's been there long enough and I would want it removed ASAP. |
Oh my, poor baby! I will be sending good thoughts and prayers for Rocco. I agree the 25th is 3 weeks away.. can't they get you in any sooner? |

Praying for your baby and for you. Hopefully, everything will go smoothly on the 25th and this will all become history. You're a great momma to take him as soon as you could after you found it. As someone else already posted, don't beat yourself up. :) |
Keeping Rocco in my prayers that surgery will be simple and not require the removal of teeth or jawbone. Our Airedale had an oral tumor removed that did not affect the teeth or bone. Like Teresa's Lab, our doggy bounced back immediately. The tumor was cancerous, but did not cause any other problems. She lived to old age. |
So nice to hear encouragement from all of you. To answer why not until the 25th, it's because minor surgeries are scheduled only on Wednesdays, and as it happens they were booked for next week (the 11th) and I am away for work on the 18th. My vet was absolutely ok with waiting until the 25th, otherwise I would have done anything necessary to schedule sooner. And yes, he had his yearly checkup/shots in April, and there was nothing there because yes, of course my vet checks his teeth and gums. Because of this, I am optimistic that there is no bone involvement. There has been no change since we found this on Friday. |
prayers it is nothing serious. |
Hope all goes well i have the same issue with my little guy :( the vet is removing it as we speak, i didnt order a biopsy in fright of what news may come along with it ( i know its selfish of me but i cant bring myself to see my little guy suffering) he went in for teeth cleaning 13 days ago and this growth showed up immediately afterwards. Stay strong! |
