Hair bow clipped ONTO skin at groomer!? I'm mortified. My two little babes got groomed last Friday. This groomer has worked on Max before (he only gets a puppy cut/shaved) and not Maggie (long hair). This time around, we took them both. Maggie left with a beautiful, CLIP IN bow and I was very surprised they they gave her more than the usual rubberband cheap "cut out" bows. She didn't fuss with it at all (usually does with the bands) so we left it in until today. Maggie is almost 9 and I've worn many a bow in her hair. I know almost a week is a little much, but her bangs were out of her eyes, she was fine with it and my work schedule has been insane and making me basically delirious. I just took the bow out of her hair as we were cuddling and there was a "knot" in her hair where it was. I was like, "oh jeez, another knot! Shouldn't have left that in for so long. I know better!" Turns out... it is a RAISED pinch of her skin that is scabbed/dark red that had been clipped by the bow for almost a week. I'm in tears that I let that happen and let it slip past me. She isn't bothering it but I feel like a total failure. Also, I'm going to watch it tonight and tomorrow (take her to work with me) because I'm worried that maybe since it was pinched for so long there could be skin death? Super mortified the groomer/vet let that happen and even more mortified I didn't notice sooner. Has ANYONE ever experienced something like this? :( :( |
No, my groomer always used the rubber band bows, but Those can be hard to remove so now i get no bows at all. you should definitely tell the groomer what happened and maybe take Maggie to the vet to make sure no infection! Hope all goes well and she is ok! Good luck! |
The groomer I used, uses the latex band bows. Sometimes I use the alligator clips but I use the latex bands first. To remove the latex bands you cut them out. |
I've never kept a hair accessory/band/clip in overnight-their skin needs to breath. Thank goodness, because once by mistake I put Dolly's skin up in the rubberband. It didn't seem to bother her at all, but when I took it out that night she had a purple spot there & now has a little bald spot there. Now every time I put their hair up I check & make sure there's no skin in the band or clip. Please consider spending just a couple minutes every morning putting a new band in, then cutting it out before bed at night. Your baby will look prettier every day & will love you for it! |
Poor girl. I would let the groomer know and have your vet take a look at Maggie. If the circulation was cut off that long, the skin is dead. I'm not sure if there is something that needs to be done to prevent additional problems in the area. I agree with Dollydoodle that hair accessories need to be removed and re-done daily. Topknots with band or clips should be checked carefully to make sure they are not too tight. I admit my boys help in that department by scratching at their heads if a hair is pulled too tight. |

This just makes me sick to my stomach to read this!!! That poor, sweet baby! How that must have hurt. I'd have that groomer for lunch! Take pictures! Write a formal letter of complaint and send it to whomever you can to try to get her disciplined. What a HORRIBLE thing to do - pull that hair and skin so hard and tight and then carelessly close that awful clip over SKIN and nerves and compromise the circulation that way!!! My gosh how long was the circulation just cut off to that skin and hair follicles? The pain must have been really bad. I hope nerves or hair follicles didn't die. I pray there is no permanent damage physically or psychologically with your little one after this! Horrible! Definitely get her to the vet and get treatment, clean up and antibiotics or whatever the vet thinks is necessary. |

When I first joined YT, there were a number of cases of bows being put on too tight. The skin doesn't have to be in the clip or band for damage to occur If the hair is too tight, it will have the same effect of killing the skin tissue. |
I always take the top knot out every night. He looks like a little moppet in the morning. Also after I take it out I usually massage his head to make it feel better. I know when I pull my hair back a nice head rub always feels better after I take it out. |
