Could be seizures I posted under the subject "sight problem maybe". I thought Zoey might have a floater because of her strange behavior. She would freeze and lower her head to about an inch from a surface and then try to bite imaginary bugs. I researched dog floaters and discovered that these "fly-biting" eposides can be epileptic seizures. Today I took her to the vet and they did a complete blood panel. She does not have any floaters. He wants me to record her doing this. Results will be back on Wed. I will try to get it on film tonight. |

I'll update what is happening as soon as I hear from the vet. Hope it isn't seizures. My first yorkie had grand mal seizures starting at 5 yrs of age. She didn't take meds because she didn't have them very often. |
Might want to also have BATs done as this could be related to a liver shunt. I hope it is something simple. |
I don't know what a BAT test is but the vet said he was going to test the liver along with a full panel. |

Do they have to fast to get a BAT done? Or do they have to draw blood before and after they eat?? Or can it just be done in addition to a normal blood work?!? I ask because I am thinking of asking to have this test done with my older male at our vet visit next Friday. I posted a video of his "episodes" last week on here and I don't think he's had a BAT done. |

FYI, Fly or air biting is also a symptom of Chiari. Also vision problems & blindness. I would get her to a Neurologist ASAP. |
Update: all tests are normal. Vet wants to see a video of this behavior. So I am carrying around a small camera hoping to capture something. I haven't seen her do anything for the last two days. Will keep watching. |
My first pup had hydroencefelis... He had horrible seizures and he passed away :( He would freeze and just stare, convulse violently, foam at the mouth, and lose control of bodily functions.(pee/poop). The episodes lasted about 15 seconds. It was absolutely devastating to watch. I only had him for 2 days and had to take him to the vet. They did a bile test on him and and all kinds of blood work and brain scans. The seizures happened very frequently. Very heartbreaking. I hope your pup isn't going through anything like that. |
I'm so sorry that you first pup had that terrible dx. Zoey doesn't do anything like that. I am watching her like a hawk and haven't seen anything abnormal. She hasn't done the bug biting for several days. There seems to be so many different neurological problems they could have. It's going to be a wait and see. |
