Omg! Broken leg!!!!
 

Omg y'all! I have had the worst night ever. My poor little 17 week old, Bentley decided to sneak out the door when my fiancé opened it and took off at full speed. He didn't make it very far because he fell and hurt his front leg. Well a trip to the animal hospital and some xrays later.... we found out he broke it! It is at the elbow joint concerning a growth plate. Pretty aweful. The hospital quoted us a price of $3000.... OMG!

Well thank goodness my bestie works at our regular vet and after finally getting ahold of her and Bentley's normal doc we were able to take him there along with his xrays to have him take a look.

LONGGGG story short, my baby will be having surgery tomorrow to have pins placed and will be under strict restrictions for at least 6 weeks. Oh and our vet is doing the surgery for less than $1000!!!! He got a shot of morphine and is now asleep in his crate.

Holy cow. I am sorry if none of this makes sense but I have been crying for hours and am completely exhausted. Please keep my little Bennie in your prayers and if anyone has ever had a baby break their leg or any advice, it would be greatly appreciated!

Poor Bentley! I am very sorry this happened to your little guy, and I can imagine how upset and scared you are.

Oh no...poor baby :( There are several here who have dealt with this. They can give you tips and guidance. Just wanted to say I am praying for him.

I'm sorry about Bentley, but things happen. It's how you deal with them after they do. Sounds like you are on top of it. Hope he has a full and speedy recovery.

Oh gosh, this is so sad, I am very sorry Bentley is going through this...but it does sound as if you are taking very good care to get him treatment he needs. I'll say a prayer for him and hope for a speedy recovery.

I am so sorry this happened to Bentley/ sending prayers for a successful surgery and recovery// I had a Lab that I had to have both of her hips replaced and she also broke her leg so I know what you are going through/ also had a JRT who had to have his LP fixed

Thank you all so much for the prayers. I could not be more relieved. Surgery went very well and Bentley did wonderful! He has 2 pins in his elbow and has a long recovery ahead. He is not allowed to walk at all for the first week and after that he will on very strict weight bearing precautions. This is going to be ridiculously hard because he goes EVERYWHERE with me & is my little shadow. Now he will be confined to the crate way more than he used to and I will have to carry him everywhere. He can only stand to go potty and to get comfy in his crate... These next few months are going to be pretty interesting. I will definitely be asking y'all some questions on how to keep him entertained while recovering :)

Here is a pic of my little baby with his giraffe print vetwrap :) He is exhausted and the pain pills are keeping him pretty knocked.

Aww poor Bentley!! Hes so tired! Im so glad it went well. I cant imagine how tough the next few months will be. My 8 month old got spayed and I struggled keeping her still. Hes a puppy so that will be tough. Just keep him entertained as much as you can :)

Poor baby boy. He looks so sweet and adorable. I've never had to experience something like this, but others here have gotten their pups a stroller. You can keep him confined in it, but still roll it so that he can be there with you. I know it's such a long time, but it's a blip in Bentley's life. No doubt this make your loving bond with him even closer than before. I hope Bentley is soon free from pain and that his recovery goes well.

Your next project is to "fence and cross fence" your house, making SURE that your baby can NOT ever dart out a door again....thank God he didnt end up in the street or in a neighbors drive way as they were backing out. I have every door that leads to the outside front yard, protected by baby gates...my babies would have to get thru 3 baby gates, from any direction in the house they try, in order to get access to the front door and front yard dangers. It sure ruins the "Southern Living" look of my home, but it is necessary.

Happy to hear surgery went well. He is so cute! Praying for a speedy recovery. Take it one day at a time.

YES! I am incredibly OCD about keeping Bentley away from the door. He mainly stays in the living room so I have him blocked in there with a baby gate. Too bad I wasn't home. I was just getting out of my car and I saw him rounding the corner with my fiancé running behind him. I saw him fall and the cry was awful. Ugh. NEVER AGAIN! I have threatened my fiancé that if he ever lets Bentley out of his crate again that gate better be up! AND NEVER OPEN THE FRONT DOOR FOR A STUPID SOLICITER WITH BENTLEY RIGHT UNDER YOUR FEET!!! gosh. At least we still have him because it definitely could have been worse.

So glad he's ok'ish' and wishing him a quick and full recovery. I guess you will be needing a lot of kong type treats and things to keep him entertained. I bet your fiancée is feeling bad, isn't he? He owes you and Bentley a BIG treat! Perhaps a new stroller? ;) ...and dog treats/games.

I'm glad to hear that everything went well with his surgery... I'm sure it's going to be hard to keep him contained and to not overexert himself.

We fenced our front yard to prevent things like this. The gate to the front yard has a spring on it, so it closes by itself.

I would invest in some walk through baby gates, so they are up all the time.

Maybe a baby sling to carry him around in so he feels close to you? would that work with his little cast?
