Someone please help me with advice :( I am in need of advice guys.Keep in mind this is my first breeder experience... July 3 I purchased a 9 week old male yorkie from a local breeder. She said he had a health guarantee and was registered. He seemed fine. The following Wednesday he was at the vet because he wouldn't eat that day , and wasn't himself. Vet diagnosed him with Coccidia and gave him Albon. That night he developed diarrhea and vomiting. Vet said this is normal. The next day he seemed a little better and I was supplementing with Nutrical and he seemed to drink and eat a little. However, he quickly began do decline with severe vomiting and major bloody diarrhea. he was carried back and diagnosed as dehydrated from the illness. he was kept under supervision and IV was used. The vet had advised me to contact the breeder because of the 13 day incubation period of the coccidian and that her dogs should be tested. They tested positive too. Now, my dog is on IV, nausea meds, and morphine for pain. The diarrhea is shedding his intestional lining and he is in pain with constant vomiting. This breeder says she will replace him but her environment is infected with coccidian and my vet advised against it. I am now out the amount paid plus $1000 in vet bills. My pup is not going to live. I signed a euthanasia statement in case he got so bad that it was inhumane to continue. This breeder will not help guys...at all. I am in SC. Can I do anything since he came home with coccidian? He was only 2.6 pounds and just couldn't fight it :( |
1st, welcome to YT. Sorry it is under such dire circumstances. I would read through your copy of the health guarantee and see exactly what kind of guarantee is offered. Others have posted that breeders have returned the cost of the pup and/or supplemented the vet bills. If the only thing it guarantees is a replacement pup and all of her pups are infected, you might have a civil case? Idk... there are others much more knowledgeable about this as well as ethical, experienced breeders here, so I'm sure better advice should be forthcoming. I'm so sorry to hear about your pup. Absolutely heartbreaking. :cry8::cry8: |
suggest your money back. He told you under false pretense that the yorkie was indeed in good health, he lied. you can get your money back? by the way, did he give you papers to your yorkie? if so, that is your proof, hold on to those papers because you may need them if you decide to take him to court. by law, no owner/breeder can sell a sick pup off as a well pup. look on your paper work, im sure he said the pup was well and in good condition. also how far apart was the sickness from the day you bought the pup? there's usually a 3 day return policy |
I should add that she stated he had a health guarantee and reg. papers however she didn't offer anything when I got there. I later asked about the reg. papers and she said they would come in the mail and I never realized the health guarantee was a paper given it was my first breeder experience |
Is your pup on IV meds for this ? is he being given meds by mouth ? He CAN pull through this BUT IF the vet is giving him oral antibiotics he will only continue to vomit anything that goes in through his mouth so he NEEDS to be given NOTHING through the mouth for a few days so he can heal. |
Thank you. Myvet is wonderful. Here is what is being done for my Bailey *IV fluids *Albon rectally because he cant hold it orally *GI antibiotic because he is shedding the intestional lining from infection *Nutrical has been replaced with dextrose administered via IV *Morphine for pain because he his crying in distress Please note that when I visited this morning he appeared unconscious but was crying loudly. His core temp was low but actually greatly improved with a heating pad and it may be wishful thinking ...but I think he knew it was me that was petting him. He would vomit upon attempting to move , it was sticky and clear and he had what can only be described as what looked like beef blood from a meat package running from his rear. He has a catheter in his jugular. This is killing me!! I want to scoop hi up and run with him!! The breeder will not help with my ever surmounting bills to keep him alive...she simply says she will replace him for me. But my vet said do not get another from her because it will definitely have coccidian as well. I am at my wits end |
Does the vet think he can pull through? |
Wow you are the second newcomer this week that took home a sick puppy with Coccidia. Im not sure what the outcome of her little one was but I can not imagine loosing a pup in such a drastic way. I am so sorry ! |
I feel like I need to add the following.. *he showed symptoms on day 6 but coccidian has a 13 day incubation period according to my vet *I was told he had a health guarantee but wasn't given anything *He is supposed to be ckc registered but again no papers * I went to the lady's house and she seemed reputable, clean, and very caring *She admits that she took her dogs and they tested positive as well...hers are responding better because mine endured stress from the move that makes it hard for a tiny dog to fight *She admits this but will not offer ANY compensation for the vet bills...none...zero.... he is still on supportive care this minute but he is not doing well. *Nothing is being administered orally ...all by IV |
The vet is on the fence about whether he will pull through. His heartrate is awesome as well as his breathing. That's our only hope right now. I did sign a euthanasia form just in case he is in such severe suffering that he needs to be put down. I cant watch him suffer. He did take his last little bit of energy to crawl over and lay his head on my arm...I couldn't give up on him :'( |
His heartrate is good His breathing is good that's our one and only hope right now I just want my Bailey back :'( |
Please keep us posted. We are all pulling for you |
Does this "breeder" have a website? Does she have her health guarantee posted on her site?(many do) Did you sign anything when you picked him up? Like you might have possibly signed some kind of "as is" paper unknowingly, thinking it was a registration form or something. Unfortunately, I have read that the CKC is not as reputable as the AKC and it doesn't take much proof, if any, of lineage to be registered with them. Did you pay in cash or check (something traceable for true amount paid)? I think that since she sold the pup as healthy but has later admitted all of her pups are sick, if she does not willingly give back at least the purchase price, you should be able to take her to small claims court and at least get that back. Im so sorry this is happeining to both you and your furbaby. I just want to cry, and can't even imagine what you are going through. {{{{Hugs}}}} |
Spend as much time as you can with Bailey, let him know you are there...yes he did know it was you. I'm sorry your having this horrible experience. There are many folks here who have been through the same and similar, keep the faith I really do think Bailey will pull through this, we will worry about the breeder when that time comes, for now...pray and BELIEVE for Bailey. |
I'm praying for your baby. This is a heartbreaking situation. |
