| My 13 y/o Yorkie Ginger has liver disease and I am having so much trouble feeding her correctly We try the LID food but she hates it so I give her chicken and rice sometimes( vet said it was ok) just to get her to eat She is only 3.5 lbs! Anyway on Friday I gave her some hamburger 96 % lean and she has been sick ever since , now that there is no food in her belly she is drinking lots but throwing it right back up. I had to have her hydrated at Vets about 4 weeks ago and am waiting now to call to get her in today again, plus they check her liver each time. This is so sad I feel heartbroken. We have her 3 daughters as well. They are all 11 Anyway just wondering if anyone has an thoughts on this or ideas if you are or have dealt with this..... |

| YT 2000 Club Donating Member | http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...ymes-yoda.html There are many many threads on here about MVD or Liver shunt, and many mention different diets prescription, as well as home made, and also additives like milk thistle or denmarin, etc to help support the function of the liver. You can also go to a www.balanceit.com, and request a vet consult with a nutriontist to get a specifically adjusted diet for your dog.

| Thanks, I did get into Vets, she had to have fluids again and an anti-nausea med injected. She said dogs with liver disease don't eat because there food tastes bad so that is why no matter what we get, its hit or miss if she will eat it or not..i did get some special food from Vet today and a pill popper since this anti-nausea drug tastes bad she said this way I can just pop in back of her tongue Poor girl she has slept ever since we got home I want to see of she will eat just a little when she wakes up I stayed home today from work no way was I leaving her today I love her so much |

| Give your vet a call and ask if you can give her Mirtazapine. It controls nausea and vomiting and stimulates appetite. It does not work for all, but when it does it is amazing! So sorry your Ginger is so ill.

| My dog Daisy was in liver Failure after an allergic reaction to doxycycline. I know how upsetting it is. I honestly feel your pain. I would suggest that she gets on S.A.M.E...probiotics....and Home cooked food. I did a lot of research and talked with a vet nutritionist to come up with a good diet for my dog. Home cooked will make a big difference. Also this was another product I used TF-Defense? - Support Dog & Cat Health During Tick Fever Recovery I hope your baby is eating soon and doing better.

| I hope so, too! It can be like a miracle...I have had great success with it in the past as have others. I only had one pup that it did not work for.

| I had to take Ginger back to Vets last night , they kept her overnight with an IV in it doesn't look good. We are bringing her home tonight but I don't know for how long, she ate a little baby food at the Vets and is standing up. We were all ready to let her go last night but Vet said she would suggest one last try??? I hope we did the right thing by prolonging it I feel like I could just die myself ![]() |

| We have her home now and she ate last night but she is not eating as much already today and she is back in her bed, just laying down, I know in my head she has no quality of life but my heart is breaking. I should be the strong one and make the decision to have her put to rest to let her go in dignity off to Rainbow Bridge I am so torn up I don't like playing God and making life and death decisions I can use any words of wisdom you have. I am in a bad place right now |

You are not really making a life and death decision when there is nothing left to do for her. At least that is the way I see it. I will pray for you and hope that whatever decision you make is one that you will know you made because of your love for your baby. In my mind, there is no wrong decision. *hugs* to you...
