Molli isn't eating! Poor Molli got vaccines on Friday. She was due for the regulars, dhpp, bordetella, and rabies. I debated separating them but she had been fine with her vaccines last year. This time really hit her hard though. She hasn't eaten her dry food but will eat wet or turkey. Yesterday she spent all day under the bed, that's where she likes to sleep. She seemed trembly and her breath smells bad like her tummy is upset. No fever or throwing up or diarrhea. I gave her Benadryl yesterday and a Pepcid ac this morning but she's just not back to her normal Molli self. I have NEVER seen her not eat her dry food so that is the most troubling. Anyone have pointers?? |
I'd keep watching her, and trying to get her to eat. It's Sunday, so I don't know if your vets open or not, but I'd call them if you can. Have you tried Nutri-cal? Maybe that will help her. I hope she feels better soon. Poor baby! I hate getting shots for mine! :( |
Poor Molli, so sorry she does not feel good since her vaccines. At least she is eating something so probably nothing serious at this stage, hopefully just a temporary lack of appetite. That seems a lot of vaccines in one day and even if they have been well tolerated before, it looks like this time it was too much for her system. It is so sad for us to see our babies when they feel unwell, they just want to go in a corner and nurse their own wounds. I pray she will get over this and back to her normal happy self soon, but if she is not better by tomorrow perhaps a vet call or visit might be good to do. I know my boy often feels low after even one vaccine, but soon recovers. Get well soon little Molli. |
This is the way it usually goes with vaccine reactions they can be just fine and then later in life you take them for them and they have a reaction. If it keeps up tomorrow i would take her to the vet |
She is a little perkier but she is just still not back to her little Molli self. I miss her waking me up in the morning with a waggy tail and puppy kisses. Seeing her sad makes me wanna cry, she is so happy usually. I will watch her- I never wanna give her vaccines again :( |
Aw! Poor Molli! Separating the vaccs is better bc each one can produce more antibodies that way. Right now her immune system is trying to accommodate all those vaccs at the same time... some pups are sickly up to 7-8 days! I'd just let her eat canned if that's what she wants... and it'll just take time for the vaccs to clear her system. I'd keep her away from other dogs (not in the same house) and leave her home till she feels better. Praying for a speedy recovery.... |
Usually such reactions only last for 24 - 48 hours. I would call the vet and speak with him/her. That way it can be noted on her records. Definitely better to separate the vaccines in the future. Hope she is feeling better soon. Poor baby. :( |

i agree i seperate the vacs no matter. i had cedric get real sick the first time and ill never do that again. i hope molli is feeling better asap. |
Molli has a hot spot! She seems like she is feeling better today but this morning I noticed she is chewing her butt in the spot the vaccines were given. It looks like a hot spot! And before she hasn't really wanted to show me her belly but I figured it was because she didn't feel good then last night I saw it and it's all RED! :( I feel so horrible! I guess I take for granted Molli is usually my 'healthy one'. Chibi is usually sensitive to vaccines but one Benadryl and he is fine, Molli has been getting Benadryl for 3 days now! I'm taking her in to the vet today- my poor baby! :cry8: |

Poor Molli :( Bogie had a reaction when I had all his vaccines done at one time..this was when we first adopted him and I had no idea to seperate them. He was lethargic for 4 days with benadryl and a visit to the vet because I was so worried. We always seperate vaccines now..and Jada has never had a reaction ,but its not worth the chance ,so we separate them for her too. I hope Molli is feeling back to herself really soon. |
Poor Mollie! Hope she's ok. My Vet wouldn't give Bella her shots all at once, now I know why! |

We saw the vet and got some prednisone and some ointment to put on the spot she was chewing on, she also got a cone of shame to wear until she stops being so itchy. Poor baby- I feel so bad, I should have split them up. I don't know what I was thinking, didn't help the vet made me feel guilty about it too :( At least she seems a little bit perkier after her first dose of meds- still not eating dry food though but she is scarfing down wet- is this normal  |
Im just now seeing this! I can not imagine Molli NOT being happy. Poor baby I hope that she is feeling much better tomarrow. I will be keeping Molli and Mommie in my thoughts. |

Thanks for all the help you guys! I hate seeing Molli sad because she is such a happy dog, I learned my lesson for sure, even the strongest of yorkies can be sensitive :) |
you can do a vaccination titer// I have to do that with my female Papillion. but my vet does separate the vaccinations for morgan |

:thankyou2 Thanks so much you guys! I was freaking out. Can always count on YT to talk you off the edge of going crazy :D Molli is much better- it's hard to say if the spot where the rabies was given will be a permanent 'scar' or not but luckily she's got plenty of fluffy fur to cover it up |
eek! Spoke too soon! Ok so she feels better but her vaccine spot looks horrible! @ladyjane- when your yorkie had the reaction did it get all....road rashy almost?? I didn't really see before because her cottony coat is so thick, I only saw a little bit of it and the hair around it was all stuck, I tried to shave it a bit but I could tell it hurt her- I put a warm wash cloth on it and now I can see the area or injury is a HUGE circle on her but (like an inch I think- she wont really let me look at it) I thought we were out of the woods because she felt better :( |

help! 1 Attachment(s) I shaved it as close as I could to get a better look. This picture is right after I put the ointment they told me to use on it. The hard part is I am not sure if this looks better or worse because before her hair was all matted on the area so I really couldn't see how bad it was. Is this normal?! Any one else see a rabies vaccine reaction look like this??? What should I do? Keep an eye on it? Rush her back to the vet?? |

ok so I am really bad at updating- sorry, promise to work on that in the future (which hopefully isn't any sick/emergencies too soon). Molli is doing much better, you really have to look close to even see the spot. I am even having her tested to be a therapy dog soon- I found a company that will accept titers on the Rabies vaccine. I don't know yet what the future will hold for Molli and the Rabies vaccine, I rather not ever give it again but if the county or something makes me I will make sure it is given at an actual vet hospital and she is pre-benadryl'd and maybe even stays in their care for a while after. I never want to see her go through that again! I learned my lesson for sure- just because I can get vaccines for cheap at work does not mean I should. I rather pay more and have my dog not get sick! And no matter what the medical people tell you SPACE your vaccines apart! Well now I know and I will be a better more cautious mommy from now on. |
