My poor baby Petey was attacked on Friday! 2 Attachment(s) Attachment 387380 Attachment 387381Hi all, I don't think anyone knows who Petey and I are, I've sat in the shadows reading and not sure if I should jump in,...until now. My hubby and I and our 2 little boys were just coming out of our yard and into the alley behind our house, there was a German Shepard that is always running loose, always friendly to my dogs, my little Petey actually liked to play with this dog. My hubby and I and our Shi-itzu were about 20-30 ft away when Petey went up to this big 2.5 yr. old Shepard, Petey was wiggling his tail all happy when out of the blue the Shepard changed his look and stance and the next thing we knew, it had Petey pinned down on the ground attacking him! We screamed and ran towards the dog and it was enough for him to let Petey go, I'll never forget the screams that came out of Petey, I can still hear them! he ran to my hubby as fast as he could and hubby picked him up then noticed he got covered in blood, next thing was the owner of the big dog came running out and dragged his dog in the house then came running back out to see what injuries Petey had, he saw the 1 inch tear on Petey's head and tried to play it down, then says if your taking him to the vet just send him the bill, well that did not sit well with my hubby, he ordered the guy to get his shoes on and get his wallet out and follow us to the vet, Petey was then in my arms, by the time we got to the vet it was 2:30pm and the owner of the Shepard actually showed up. My hubby was still freaking and realized while holding Petey, Petey had peed all down hubby's side, so while and was trying hard not to flip out on the guy, I wouldn't blame him! Well, with Petey in my arms I went to the counter and they told me I'd have to wait till 4pm to see a vet, just as she said that I took my right hand away and it was covered in blood, his neck was bleeding, they then changed their mind about waiting, they took him in and checked him over and his worst bite was his eye and a bite in the mouth and luckily his eye didn't have any scratches or punctures, but it was also cut under his eye, poor guy has has a real runny eye that makes it look worse. The other dog owner then had to go to the bank to get the money to pay for the bill, we didn't even think he was coming back, but low and behold he did and payed the bill, he got off pretty easy, it was less then the bill I had for my Shi-itzu's ear infection! But Petey's on the mend, he's on anti-biotics, his eye isn't so painful, he lets me put polysporin on it and it looks so much better! He's getting his confidence back also, even more so now, growling and patrolling the yard double duty! I didn't add that Petey had been almost on deaths doors earlier this year, he was suspected of having Cushings, I couldn't afford the tests so I did a ton of research and put him on a vitamin and herbal diet and started making making his food, well he gained back almost 1/2 the weight he had lost and has tons of energy now and doing so much better. Thanks for reading...if you have any questions just let me know! Thanks! Petey's mum! I included pictures, not sure how or where they will show up. |
Wow, poor Petey! I'm glad the neighbor did what was right and paid the bill, but I would still be sure and report this to animal control if the vets office didn't, because they need to have it on record if this german shephard ever attacks another dog or person. :eek:Who knows what made this usually friendly dog attack, but I'm glad y'all were right there and able to save Petey from more harm than was done. I would have been hysterical!!!!! :fainted:I hope he continues to heal up well, and it sounds like you are doing a great job with the cushings diet. :D |
Awwww, Poor Petey ! I'm glad he wasn't hurt worse then he was. You & your hubby are very lucky that GS didn't kill Petey. I hope the owner of that dog learned something from this, like keeping his dog confined inside a fence or in the house from now on. Makes me CRAZY when people are so irresponsible:mad: I know you have been a member for a long time but since you don't post much, Welcome to YT ! I hope Petey will make a speedy recovery, poor little guy:( |
I'm glad that Petey is getting better. I'm so sorry for what happened. I don't know what I would have done if that happened to my dog. It's good that the owner of the shepherd payed the bill but like MArhcarter said, it's better to report the incident. |
Poor little Petey could have so easily been killed....that GS could have killed him with one bite.....Petey is very lucky. |
so glad petey is on the mend and the owner did the right thing...i hope it makes him more aware of where his dog is and maybe he should allow it freedom...the next baby may not be as lucky as petey. prayers for a full recovery. |
wow--- you just lived one of my biggest fears. I too have yorkies and shih tzu and we have large dogs that get loose around here. I am so glad your Petey will be ok.. both with the attack and the other illness. |
How scary. So glad Petey is okay. And the neighbor did what was right and paid the bill. Lets hope he keeps his dog on a leash now. |
Wow this sure does bring back memories! My Gus was attacked by our neighbors Germin Shepherd. The owner had to fork out about a grand for the bill. Gus had a punksured lung, fluid in chest cavity and three open wounds that needed a total of 11 stitches! We did call the police after learning that this dog had done this before with another neighbors chewahuah but when making the report they could not prove it was this shepherd who did it because they did not see it happen. Even though there was a hole under the fence that they caught her going through the day before. The authorities did nothing but gave the owners a fine. It wasn't till the very same shepherd got out and killed another neighbors brand new puppy that was out in their own front yard playing and running with the kids that they had to take the dog away. What got me is these people were crying and carrying on when the dog was being taken away when they should have had been more responsible in the first place! |
I am so sorry that you went through this but am very thankful Petey is ok. It is very traumatizing to both you and your pet when an attack from another dog happens. My Dog Daisy was attacked when she was a puppy and she is still afraid of big dogs. My neighbor never paid the vet bill and 500.00 later but at the time I was just thankful that my Daisy was ok. I will be praying that petey recovers fully and that you can relax after all the horrific memories of the attack... |
AWWWWWWWWWW poor petey. |
OMG- I’m so sorry about Petey. That must have been horrible for you to watch and go through. Our little babies are so precious to us something that traumatic would give me anxiety. It sounds like Petey will be ok.. For what it is worth it is a great thing the owner of the dog paid for it, most people would have dipped out on that one. I will be praying for Petey’s recovery. |
Hi and welcome to YT. I'm glad to know that Petey is going to be okay. The neighbor was decent enough to pay the vet bill. I watch alot of court shows and there are very few people who will step up and do the right thing. |
I am glad that Peter is going to be okay how scary |
I'm so sorry that you, Petey and your family had to go through such an ordeal. I am, however, happy Petey will be fine and the owner did the right thing. Now, he needs to not let his dog freely roam the neighborhood. Katy & Bella |
Poor Petey. Your husband did a good job holding his temper. I hope he is back to full health real soon. |
So sorry about your baby and thankfully he's ok. But did you ever think it could be your young boys next. Call animal control and the police. |
Wow! Poor little Petey and I am so sorry that you and your husband had to see and experience that - that had to be the most scary thing! I am so happy to hear that Petey is doing better and that he will be ok. When I first began reading your post, I got so scared that he might not have made it, so I am so glad that he is ok. :) Some dear friends of ours had this same thing happen to them and one of their small Chihuahuas - the dog that attached him, though, was a Black Lab. And he bit down right through little Cortez's ribcage. Thankfully, nothing was punctured and he was OK in the end as well. Very best wishes to you and sweet Petey! I am relieved he is ok. |
Holy cow.....as I was reading this, I didn't realize that I was holding my breath! You had to be scared out of your mind! So glad that Petey is going to be fine! :) |
What a scary ordeal for Petey, your husband and you. I was so happy to read that Petey is doing so much better and patrolling the yard. It is my biggest fear when we are out for walks. It irritates me when people get upset when I block their dog from approaching Buster or pick Buster up. You just never know, poor Petey thought he was friends with this dog and it just turned on him. I am glad your neighbor did the right thing by paying but if he had done the right thing by not letting the dog run wild this sad situation would never have happened in the first place. Best wishes to you all. |
Oh my, what a harrowing ordeal for little Petey and for you and your DH. I am so glad that Petey is on the mend and hopefully this won't end up being any kind of set back for Petey! Bless you all!! |
This is so horrible!! I feel so sorry for Petey, you guys, and the GSD owner as well. I'm sure he was a shocked as you that his "otherwise" nice dog made such an about face. I hope the guy keeps him on a leash and away from the little guys. Soft hugs for Petey. (Oh, I also had a Petey years ago, but he was a Boston Terrier). |
Thank you all!! Thank you all for the love and well wishes, Petey was being quite the little prankster this morn, getting a hold of a paper towel cardboard roll and was running around the house with it wanting me to chase him! so cute! I received a call also this morning from my former neighbor, she has a beautiful Golden Lab that also was friendly towards this G.S, she just happened to be down at the lake one evening and the owner and his dog were there also, the Lab got too close to the owner of the GS and next thing they knew the GS had the lab pined on the ground and her ear got punctured! (and the guy told me it was their fault....not his!!). She is going to report the owner and his dog to the SPCA. He'll just end up moving to some other place in town! But we''' be watching him and his dog!!I hope you like it....I know we are suppose to put these in a separate forum page but....excuse the messy bed! |
He is so cute:) I love how he listens to you and looks up at you with his big loveable eyes!! He is a sweet heart:) |
I'm so sorry little Petey was attacked and hope nothing like that every happens again to this sweet little guy. He's precious. |
I am so glad Petey is going to be ok. That is so scary. I just started walking all 3 of mine on nice days and I am so afraid of something like that happening. I keep them close by me on leashes. I bring the stroller with so I can quickly put them in it if I see a loose dog. But it can happen so quickly like with Petey that I am always worried. |
Oh Petey is so adorable. I loved the video. It's so precious the way he looks at you the love between you is so evident. I hope he is feeling better and better. So sad about the GSD I wish the owner would get a muzzle for that dog at the very least. |
petety I have tears hearing about little fearless petey. All who own and walk dogs must be careful. Dogs run loose and attack. I keep mine in my neighborhood and watch out. I carry a type of mace in case of attack. I am so thankful petey is ok. Bless him and keep him healthy and happy. |
buggz, I love the video you posted. it's beautiful to see your connection with Petey! |
I have spoken with the mum of the other dog he attacked and we are coordinating an an authority visit to the owner. I had to get the address and vehicle license # today, and I also talked to the neighbor who he says " it's their little dogs fault for revving his dog up"! they were flabbergasted that he would say that, the neighbor says the GS tries to get thru the fence at their little guys! and it had growled at him one night when he got out of his car to go into his house! I had both my boys with me today while talking with the neighbors and just as I was getting ready to leave Low & Behold the GS came wandering out from his house into the yard that is fenced but has no gate! No collar,No Leash, and No mussel!! we could not believe it !, by the time I got home it was too late to call the authorities (cut backs), but I will be on the phone first thing in the morning! Oh, when I walked by the first time his vehicle had been parked in the front and I think he might of seen me writing down his plate #, by the time I came back, he had moved his car to the back alley! Trying to hide!! Bugger!! |
