Been running with sick pups today and did not see this. I do hope Maggie is ok.... |
First time I have been on today. I hope that Maggie is ok. The mulch around our trees is red,THAT may be leaving. Please let us know what the vet says. |
Update on Maggie The vet has diagnosed Maggie with Giardia. He thinks it's related to the mulch, she eats it every chance she gets. Over the last two days he's done almost every test that can possibly be done. He sent her home with Panacur and Metronidazole (he also sent the same meds for Buster). She doesn't have a blockage, I was thinking this was the case since she wouldn't lay down. She still has diarrhea and is not eating. I tried hand feeding her some boiled chicken and rice but she ate very little. I haven't seen her drink any water. She went outside a few minutes ago and started eating grass (little girl gets sassy when she doesn't get to eat the grass and the mulch). The vet did say to let her eat anything she wants other than the mulch and the grass, which is what she wants to eat. |
Does she like green beans? So glad she's not blocked! |
I pray the meds help Maggie recover quickly. It's frustrating when these little ones want to eat things that are bad for them, especially when you offer good food to them. Max managed to dip his face in fresh, finely ground mulch last year, ugh. Hoping Miss Maggie will drink and eat tonight so that you don't have to worry as much. |
Green beans, cooked carrots, pasta, egg, dry toast, you can dip toast in chic broth,. When Mina refuses to eat and NOTHING else will work I giver her baby meats. They come in tiny jars (chic, turkey, beef) make sure that there is NO onion powder in it. |
Thanks Kristin....I've offered chicken & rice, plain chicken, pumpkin...ok, so not really a buffet but it looks like one when it's all lined up in little bowls. I've put kibble down as well. She wants grass, aargh! We don't have the red mulch or the real black mulch, but it all smells bad. Maggie is sneaky, she will go around the yard until she thinks she's found a place where she can't be seen. She hides in the shrubs and will almost not breath if she thinks she can't be found. Tell Max he's way too handsome to be sticking that gorgeous face in a pile of mulch! |
Same goes for Miss Maggie -- too adorable to be messing with mulch. She doesn't need the fiber in a lot of potential treats, but maybe something like greens beans, eggs, sweet potato, parmesan cheese would spur her appetite -- if she doesn't have any other diet restrictions that would rule these out. Teddy is a little booger and won't touch rice or pasta, even when it is soaked in broth. |

Oh, thank goodness she is ok. As for the mulch and grass, I don't know what to say...I have battled that one myself. I swear the more you try to stop it, the more they want it. |
After reading your thread earlier today,I informed DH that we would be removing the red mulch from the back yard. It can go anywhere else but the fenced in area is for the dogs and small children. |
Praying Miss Maggie is feeling better today and that she is eating and drinking. |
