What a tragic accident! I am going to pray for a miracle for your sweet baby. |
The owner of the dog is our neighbor and he hasn't volunteered to help with anything. When my husband texted him to tell him how much we've already spent he replied, "I wish I knew what to say." So, that means sorry, but you're out of luck. The bills are outrageous so far, and will only add on as time goes on. But, we aren't focused on that right now, just getting her home to us. She is actually at a vet school in Oklahoma. It's the OSU vet teaching hospital. They seem to be very knowledgable there. |
IM so sorry, that is horrible |

Praying for your baby to have a speedy recovery. Susan |
I am so sorry to hear this... Have you contacted the police about this incident? I hope your neighbor plans on contributing to the vet bills! |
Just checking on your baby. Hope everything is better and praying for a miracle! |
She gets to come home tomorrow morning. We are excited to get to bring her home! We will have to express her bladder for her, and she will be in diapers since she is incontinent. I am an RN, so I have some experience with spinal fractures and all the goes along with it, so I hope we can give her good care. The vet did call this morning to tell us that she looked like she has some movement in her left leg, which is the leg that had no feeling or movement at all, so that seems to be a huge change. She is coming home in a splint to protect her back and will wear it for about 3 months. The neighbor has not volunteered to help with any bills or anything. I think that's a lost cause. |

I think where you are wrong is that they(neighbors) do not need to volunteer. You need to demand it. It's their obligation. |
I am thrilled with your baby's progress!!! I am also thrilled you are an RN and will have a jump on the medical issues you have to watch for....this is going to be such a massive amount of information and knowledge you already xre in tune to, so there is a very small "learning curve" facing you with the care this baby needs! I am really excited right along with you!!! I am happy for the return of some movement in that hind leg too....I have heard of research programs....it just in the animal research stages....where they inject nerve cells into the spinal cord and the cells are actually regenerating damaged nerves in the spine, so they are very hopeful this research is going to enable patients with paralysis, to regain use of limbs! Down the road, since your baby has been treated at an excellent vet school, they may be aware of this research....I have no idea if this would be an option for you to investigate....it would probably be very expensive, but since it is research trials, it may be offered for free....being an RN, you will be able to investigate this avenue easily! |

Sending our love and prayers to your baby. Your neighbor sounds like a real prince. I may have missed one of your posts but I have to ask. How did your puppy get near a German Sheppard? I get nervous when my small dogs play with my basset hounds. I know that German Sheppards are high strung dogs. Our basset hounds are the most loving dogs in the world and I still worry. |
So sorry to hear about what your puppy & you are going through. I have heard lots of good things about the OSU Vet School. Hopefully they can help a lot & prayer works great too. Glad to hear there is some improvement and you get to bring her home! |
