Well, I work for hand orthopedic surgeons (from Harvard and Johns Hopkins), and the majority of post-op patients are fractures of the wrist. It happens all the time in kids they are always falling out of trees and off of fences and if it is worth anything, they very rarely need physical therapy and rarely if ever need any hardware.
If she/he were a human child we would keep the wrist cast dry and do no surgery. One of the doctors, who has written a number of articles in the Journals of Hand Surgery, used to say with kids if you put two bones together they will heal. The usually heal with excellent ROM and normal play allows them to regain strength.
I am assuming pups are probably the same way. Forgive yourself, it could of happened to anyone.

Actually they are not the same. Most wrist injuries in pups need surgery. I have a long history of taking in ortho cases and have seen some awful messes with pups that were casted. I have had three vets tell me the same thing...only 5% will heal with casting. These vets were in different facilities so it must be common knowledge to them. One of our fosters, Snickers, lost his leg in the end because it had been too long and the bone graft did not save it. Very sad.
The OP is fortunate that this injury healed. Very happy to hear that it did.

I looked at the link and it is the vascularity that is the issue. I don't profess to be a vet. I just know accidents happen and I felt for the owner, I still say it could have happened to anyone.
My baby has Legg Calve Perthes and interestingly it does occur in humans as well. She is to have surgery on 8/9. It is a learning experience, I just wish it didn't have to happen to my dog. I just hope with the vets advice we can work through it and live our lives together as planned.
I already have the doggy physical therapy information and am getting familiar with the procedure.

Oh, I did not say it could not happen to anyone. Accidents do happen for sure.

Your baby will be fine! I have gone through that surgery with a few pups. Two of my personal pups have had FHOs. I have never had to do any physical therapy with any of them...they all did very well. They really are amazing! :)
