Weaker bones show up less on xrays than stronger bones. Sounds like your vet is being very careful with checking him twice a week as that is key to keeping those bones in place so they can heal. Best of luck with him and I pray he recovers completely. BTW: Welcome to YT! |
To clarify what I meant: This is a four month old puppy and I would find it extremely unusual for him to have osteo or something like that. Perhaps the vet meant that the area where the fracture is is soft....that makes sense because I believe it is in the growth plates and that area is softer than other parts of the bones. That is why I expressed the concern that I did from the start. Puppies heal quickly and I do hope this one does and heals well.....often if a fracture is in the growth plate, if not corrected appropriately a deformity will occur. I am also concerned that this vet said that this puppy can never have a normal life...playing and the like. I would be checking things out with the breeder for sure! This just sounds concerning to me. OP, yes, welcome to YT. I hope that your puppy does very well with what this vet is doing and will be keeping him and you in my thoughts and prayers. It does concern me greatly, but I don't know anything about veterinary care in the UK. All I can hope and pray for is that this is a good idea for your puppy. Please keep us updated on his progress! :) |
Just to let everyone know Reese is doing well so far. Both vets said he is healing excellently based on X-rays! So pleased. Will keep everyone up to date and thanks everyone for your help! |

Go Reese I am glad to hear his is healing well. Best wishes |
Hey all. Been a while I know but just wanted to update. Everything is going great for us. Reese is walking perfectly fine. At first he limped after running or jumping but now it's great. He doesn't seem to have any pain in it. I still flinch every time he runs and my heart is in my throat when he jumps up or down from sofas etc but he is doing so good and is such a gorgeous happy boy. Thanks for everyone's help! |
So happy to hear that Reese is doing well. You might want to get ramps or stairs for him to prevent any future injuries. Yorkies are very prone to injuries from jumping...especially in their knees. Thanks for the update! :) |
