Momo just had a seizure! He's never had a seizure b4, it last a short 5-7 sec but it feels like it lasted a lot longer. I gave him some homemade chicken broth & he was lapping it up so fast, then all of a sudden he collapsed on his side & all his 4 legs were flailing wildly like he was dying! He recovered right away & even ran to Princess' bowl & finished her broth. He's acting fine, like nothing happened. I'll be making an appt tomorrow to take him in tomorrow or Wed (depending if there's room), he needs to have a recheck for the struvite crystals too. Could it be his kidneys? What do I have to look out for? Is this an emergency situation? I'm really trying not to freak out right now...I am so scared!:( |

oh my gosh...how scared you must have been! I am sure someone will post advice soon. I just wanted to send you a hug across cyber space and tell you that Momo is in my prayers, Jenny! |

Can't say for sure, as it's his first... are his pupils equal and reactive (to light) yes=good, no= go to vet Gums pink no= go to vet If he has another= go to vet |

Oh Jenny, I would be terrified. I am sending prayers up for Momo that he is okay and this was just a one time thing and hugs and prayers for you also. Very scary. |

I'm trying not to google, but found this link from my vet's website: 01 Seizures / Convulsions - VeterinaryPartner.com - a VIN company! In general, animals less than one year of age typically have seizures due to a birth defect such as hydrocephalus (water on the brain) or a liver defect called a portosystemic shunt (among others). Animals that have their first seizure between 1 and 5 years of age typically suffer from epilepsy, while those over 5 years of age often have another medical condition causing the seizures such as a brain tumor, stroke or low blood sugar. Momo is 6 years old & it was not low blood sugar.:( I'm not going to read anymore tonight...1st thing, will make an appt in the morning. Quote:

I'll pray too, Jenny! How terribly scary for you and Momo. Yes...sometimes it's best not to Google things like this. Hugs to you! It must be a good sign that it only lasted a short time? |

Oh Jenny. I'm so sorry. I know nothing about what could be wrong with little Momo. But I just wanted to let you know we're thinking of you & keeping our fingers crossed. Yoshi & Momo send puppy hugs and kisses. Please keep us updated. |

i hope momo is ok and you find out what happened or why when you get a vet visit. many prayers and a hug to you. |

Hoping that Momo is okay, update when you get back from the vet. Will be praying for you. |

Poor Momo. Don't google! Epilepsy would be a diagnosis only after anything/everything is ruled out with proper testing. Sorry you had to experience this. It's so frightening :( |

Praying Momo is ok. Let us know what the vet says. |

Praying for Momo and you. Please keep up posted on what the vet says. |

Praying for both of you |

Jenny, I am just seeing this. Praying for Momo and sending gentle hugs to you both. I'm glad you were with him when it happened and that he is doing well. |

How is he doing this morning? Had you on my mind so had to post and let you know. Praying Momo is feeling better AND that you can find out the cause so no more scares hopefully. Oh, and stay away from Google! You know that, Missy ;) :) |

Columbo had an incident on Friday that sounds very similar. Columbo has been dealing with some health issues for the past couple weeks. He is under the care of an internist. Severe PLE/IBD. He has been responding to treatment so far for the past week. On Friday, I took him out to pee while I walked down to the mailbox to check the mail. I turned around to look at him and he was down on the driveway, legs flailing on the side, head back slightly. It looked like he was having a seizure. I ran to him and as I got down on the ground, he got up and was fine. This all happened in a matter few seconds, maybe 5-10. I called the internist, who had just seen him a couple hours before. She said that seizures usually last longer, usually 20 sec. or more, followed by some confusion and disorientation. So whatever it was, she didn't think it was a seizure. Possibly heart related, except his heart looked & sounded fine (xray & ultrasound). So she said to let her know if anything like that happened again. She checked him again on Monday and said heart and lungs sounded strong. Nothing like it has happened since, so now wondering if maybe he just slipped and fell somehow, although I've never seen him fall and end up like that. Anyway, I just wanted to pass on what the internist said about the seizure. Since Momo's happened so fast & he wasn't disoriented or confused after, it sounds like it might not have been a seizure. |

Praying Momo is well, please keep us posted :hands: |

I just saw this. How is Momo today? Good thoughts and blessings for Momo and you. ((hugs)) |

Just now seeing this...I'm so sorry to hear about Momo :( I'll be keeping my eyes out for an update...hoping for the best. |

I would so be at the emegency vet if Tibbe ever had a seizure. I'm sure I would think he was dying or something - but it would scare me right down the highway to the vet. I sure hope this isn't anything really seriously bad. It sounds so terribly scary. |

Thank you all so much for keeping Momo in your thoughts & prayers! I made an appt for 3:40 this afternoon @ a new vet hospital. I also wanted a recheck on his struvite crystals & this is the vet who saw Princess when she was sick w/colitis, he was very thorough. He also has a Yorkie.:D I have confidence in him & his staff, it's closer to our place too. I've been going to the other vet since they were puppies, so I had some sort of loyalty thing going on, but I think it's time to move on. Will keep you all updated. I'm on PST in CA, so it will be later than everyone else. I don't want to leave anyone out, but will answer all questions or concerns 1st. I Thank each & every one of you for your support & prayers, it means the world to us right now! Quote:

Just seeing this Jenny!! I can only imagine how scared you were and still are. Years ago our JRT Petie had a one time seizure that sounds exactly like what you are describing. My vet told us to watch him closely and to bring him in if he had another one. He never did, it just happened that one time. Sending good thoughts and prayers for Momo!! |

Sending positive thoughts to Momo!!!! |
