If he is favoring it...take him now. Fractures aren't apparent without x rays. |

So sorry about your baby :aimeeyorkOh so sorry about your baby. I shut mine's foot in the door one time. She was favoring it and I rushed her to the vet. After $175.00 and x-rays, thankfully it all was alright. It is really just a judgment call. Hope all is okay. |

Take that poor baby to the vet and get him something for the pain, and further treatment if it broken or he ruptured a tendon or something. Occasionally a fall can pull a tendon or muscle attachment loose and it may have to be reattached within a certain time frame before the tissue atrophies and calcifies or the dog can be lame.Early re-attachment can be done thru a scope usually. |

Praying it's not broken and that the vet is taking care of his pain. Let us know when you can, ok? Hugs! |

Honestly if you take him in tonight they will not be doing much but xraying him and giving you meds and advising you to follow up with your vet. Of course, if he is in pain, it is a good idea to get something for that....but to pay extra for xrays to me is not necessary. An emergency clinic is going to charge a lot more than a regular vet. If he has torn a ligament, it will require surgery and that would not be done immediately. Definitely should be done soon, but is not an emergency. If it is a fracture, it most likely also needs surgery...again not an emergency. He could have luxating patella .. and they would give him an anti inflammatory to see if that would help. If he were mine, I probably would wait until morning unless I felt meds were necessary for comfort. |

Teddy Bear just had surgery It was an torn right at the knee- Our vets are wonderful- Love those Dr.s- we stayed with Teddy till after surgery- he is staying the night there :( |

I'm so proud of you for getting little Teddy Bear in right away. So many dogs have to suffer for days before they ever get help for injuries. I imagine that injury was quite, quite painful and so glad that baby is operated and on the mend now, instead of still limping around and trying to cope with the terrible pain and swelling. You are a superb mommie! Sounds like you found a vet quickly, too. What was torn, by the way? |

Given that I only use board certified surgeons who do not operate 24/7, none of my pups have ever been operated on at night. I also don't know of any EC that does orthopedic surgery. I don't consider myself a bad owner/"mommie" for waiting for boarded surgeons. OP, If you have those services available 24/7, that is wonderful. What type of surgery was done? was it a torn cruciate ligament? Keep us posted on Teddy Bear's progress. |

It is our regualr Vets- for their patients they are always on call for emergencies He torn ligament right below the knee- I was crying- It was obvious how much pain he was in- we stayed up there while She did surgery- we got to see him before we came home- I can't sleep without my snuggler they said we could pick him up between 10 and 5 today so I will be there at 10:01 this morning |

That is fantastic that your regular vet will see you in an emergency situations. I have talked to others that use the same vet as I and have been told that they will come in for emergencies, too, but between 2 dogs and 15 years, thank goodness I haven't had to find out. (knock on wood...) |

welcome to the world of crate restriction..ill be your host.... seriously glad tb is on the mend:smile: |

I am glad you took him in....I think it is a wonderful thing that your vet responds to clients emergencies! I am sure he was in a lot of pain from his injury and alot of times they will hide that pain simply because of instinct....injured and sick in the wild are at the bottom of the food chain.....so they set their little jaws and struggle thru it. I am glad it all worked out for you and the baby! Isnt it amazing how you are just rocking along, everything just fine and on an even keel, and then all of a sudden, a miss step, or missed jump/landing, etc, and your world is hell! |

Yorkie hurt It was the most awful feeling in the world- He cried for a few minutes last night and then just snuggle in my arms- and shook I could tell he was in pain and after a few minutes (like 5 minutes) I called our Vet- This same VET saved our cat two years ago from Bob Cat Fever- She is the only VET that does blood transfusions for cats- within 100 miles- Against all odds our Cat lived- a blood transfusion, IV, and a week in ICU at our Vet's office- they had an tech. stay overnight for the first few days- 800.00 later our cat made it. Thanks everyone for your supports and prayers- Can not wait to go get my baby- |
