![]() Had a horrible scare tonight! Shorty our 12 plus year old with a collapsed treachea problem had some sort of a seizure. He woke up from his nap coughing, which is not uncommon. Only this time he just couldn't catch his breath! After watching him struggle for several seconds, he just passed out! I thought he had died in my arms!! My 25 year old daughter grapped him and kept patting him on his back with his body tilted slightly downward. He regained consciousness and I called the emergency clinic while she kept doing this...He seems OK now and even ate about 3 teaspoons of food afterwards. He has been on theophylline for his cough for several months now and it always seemed to help the trachea issue...Off to our vet tomorrow...But for tonight..I will be sleeping by his side. ![]()

| ![]() Hope that Shorty is ok this morning and that all goes well at the vet. CT is a very difficult condition to deal with. I have had a few pups with it...all with different symptoms and degrees of collapse. Often it is trial and error to see what works best. There are other meds that can be used besides Theophylline...perhaps your vet might try some others. Please let us know how things are going today....

![]() Just got back from the vet. The issue is not Shorty's collapsed treachea problem...The vet did an EKG and he has a heart issue...put him on .3ml of Digoxin twice daily..the liquid kind..doesn't want him to step outside unless it is 30 degrees or more..more like 40...I told him to be honest with me about this dog's health..he said this stuff does work and the next 2 weeks should tell the tale...Anyone know about this drug..????I hate to have false hopes...I must call immediately if he throws any up ![]()

Keeping him out of the cold weather is very good....especially with that collapsed trachea. No false hopes...these things can and do respond to treatment. I will keep him in my thoughts and prayers. Please keep us posted! ![]()

![]() Thanks everyone for your thoughts and prayers for my Shorty...As of today (Friday) there has been no more episodes of choking. Hopefully, the Digoxin heart med is doing the trick! There has been no throwing up or diarrhea. He has been eating well, (almost 1/2 cup yesterday). I still sleep by his side every night to monitor his breathing etc...I am cautiously optimistic at this point....Just wanted to let everyone know that I am thankful that you all are out there! ![]()

![]() Thanks again everyone for your thoughts and prayers for our Shorty. My report today is that he is doing very well on the heart medication, Digoxin. He had his visit today with the vet. His heart and lungs are much stronger and continues to eat well. He did lose 5 oz and is down to 5lb. I asked the vet about that and was told that this is a "good" thing as his body is ridding the extra liquid brought on by the heart condition. He estimates Shorty to be about 12 years old. At any rate, life is good! Thanks again!

![]() Digoxin is a very safe drug. We frequently use it on our 2-3 lb babies. It slows the heart rate to help the heart work more effectively. Glad to hear your little one is doing better. Heading that way with my old man Leo,our golden who is almost 13.
