Stella is a walking breathing chocolate fountain... :p the vet gave my husband some ID prescription diet canned food but I was thinking about giving her pumpkin and some boiled chicken.... Which would be better to do before I have Willie Wonka's chocolate river running through my home??? |
Oh dear! I hope she feels better soon...no advice other than stay Fonzie! |
Oh, Alisha, is she sick? I'm so sorry she's having such a bad time - I'll bet you are beside yourself worrying. Did the vet recommend anything for her diarrhea and to keep her hydrated? If not, call him and see what he suggests, too, in addition to what the breeders here advise, if any of them are online. If not, hopefully he's suggested something to help stop the diarrhea and for hydration, keeping her glucose from plummeting, etc. Poor Stella. I'll be praying she's better overnight. |
I think it is my own fault I think I went too fast on switching her over foods... She is still playful running around between leaving chocolate lakes :p |
Oh, prob. is the change of food. I'd call the vet and see what to give her to stop the diarrhea and how to replace her lost fluid if she's had over - is it 3 liquid stools? I just can't remember. Been so long since I've had an actual young puppy I can't remember the puppy rules. I don't know if pumpkin is safe for a young one like that myself on top of the food change - you know if that's too much change to add the new food and new pumpkin too so I'd track him down and ask if no breeder gets on pretty quick and helps. |
Umm oops I already gave her a spoonful of pumpkin... Now I am scared. |
Well, I'm sure that won't kill her or anything just maybe, maybe be something her GI tract can't handle or something. Or, it could help and help stop her. Since no breeders or vet techs seem to be on, just call that vet. If you can't get him, maybe you can Google what age to give pumpkin and what to do for young pup with diarrhea, like if Kaopectate or Pepto is safe for the little ones, how much Pedialyte etc. and how many loose stools before going to the ER vet, etc. In addition to stopping the diarrhea, we know you have to prevent dehydration, low glucose, etc. |
Poor Stella:) Hope she gets better:D |
Found this in our Library but couldn't find anything specifically about sick puppies and when to vet for diarrhea, etc. It does give dosage for Pepto Bismol and some other things. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/eme...g-dosages.html |
Our little chewy had diarrhea for almost a month after we got him.I would give him pepto a couple of times a week. Would also recommend you give her some Probiotics . This helped him tremendously! He now has solid poop:thumbup: |
You might want to make sure you are giving her some pedialyte to help with any extra fluids she's losing with the diarrhea. Hope her tummy settles soon. Bless her heart. |
She can quickly dehydrate. I'd take her to the vet. She may so also have coccidia and pumpkin isn't going to cure that |
The ID Prescription diet is a bland food, similar to giving chicken and white rice(1:1). The pumpkin won't hurt, just adds fiber to her diet. Has she seen the vet for this? She may need to go on Antibiotics. For diarrhea that runny, I'd have her seen asap, being so young. |
my vet used to have lilo drink a little plain pedialyte to help her stay hydrated when she used to vomit or had diarrhea. a little pumpkin should be fine but it probably is just the change in food thats causing it all. if she's not better in a a day or two and you see any dramatic changes in her energy level it is vet time . :) id just call the vet to let them know whats happening and ask for advice just in case. i hope she feels better soon! How to Stop Diarrhea in Dogs |
She actually went to the vet yesterday morning and was tested for everything so I know it is not diease or worms. If that food is good he gave us yesterday then I will do that where she will at least something in her... I was going to just boil chicken because I have no rice in the house. |
