My vet just prescribed Imodium for my Abby Rose.....1 mg. once every twenty-four hours for 2 days. She weighs 8 pounds and is 11 months old. |
The food could possibly be the problem. However, Coccidia & Giardia doesn't always show but if it is that bad I would just treat for those 2 things not to much $ really. I use Lactoquil alot at my house because I have 2 animals with bad tummies :( Keep us informed. |
I love I/D for tummy issues and never add anything except what meds the vet gives. |
I'm sorry to see Stella is still not feeling well. Out the door to work now but will check in later to see what the vet says. Praying all gets cleared up soon. Hang in there, Alisha!! |
I know she's on the way to the vet... but as an FYI: Quote:
As a rule... I don't give young puppies anything OTC unless instructed by my vet. Young puppies with medical (vomiting/diarrhea) issues need to be seen by a vet as they can go down very quickly. A vet can provide supportive care (IV fluids, heat, IV nutrition, IV medications) while they figure out what's going on with the puppy. Many times, a vet may not know for sure what's affecting an animal, and the supportive care alone is enough to get the animal through and return to a healthy state. |

The description of the looseness of her stool is what is alarming and it doesn't take much for them to dehydrate. |

Have friend whose dog's IBD worsened when given nytrical. |

You should ask him about it though. I'm thinking it may make the puppy a bit more hyper than it really is... so the vet doesn't get a true picture of how the puppy is really feeling? Just guessing here... Same goes for some types of diarrhea... depending on the cause, it may be best to not try to stop it... some things need to be evacuated from the body rapidly, and stopping it without knowing what's going on could delay healing. When I had 3 dogs, and they all came down with diarrhea at the same time (one was a GSD), I boarded them at the vet's that night. Even if I had taken off of work there's no way I could have kept up with all the cleaning. I told the vet, you keep them, get them started on the meds, and when the diarrhea stops, I'll be back to bring them home. They stayed at the vet's for 3 days... it was so worth doing. ( mainly I could not depend on DH or the kids to even let the dogs out if they needed to go, duh!) |
I know you got Stella about 90 mins away? I was wondering if the water could have caused it. My breeder told me to keep mine on bottled water and slowly mix in the well water with it. Maybe that's also causing her tummy upset. |
She has a stomach virus so she is on antibiotics, tummy medicine and a teaspoon of ID wet dog food every 2 hours after day 2 start slowly mixing dry food back in with the wet food. Oh and she has like a rash on her girlie parts from fur being wet from pee so I have to clean her girlie parts with baby wipes. They had a 8 month old that weighed 1lb they were trying to save its life there :( |
