So sorry Mandie isn't feeling well:( Good thing she is at the vets getting taken care of, I'll be be praying:) |
Prayers for Mandie that she will be just fine. |
Thank you all for your prayers! Okay, hubby took Mandie to the vet and I talked to the vet on the phone, too. I still wish I'd been there, but this is how it had to be. First off - Hubby found a shredded to pieces mushroom in our backyard this morning. Now, I don't recall seeing this last night (but maybe I missed it..it was dark). I kind of think it happened overnight by a squirrel or chipmunk or something but just in case we absolutely told the vet. She seems to think that it was probably the mushroom, but not certain. She examined Mandie and checked her stomach for pain and if she could feel any obstruction (again, I wasn't there when this was happening but I would've asked if you can actually feel an obstruction with your hands). Anyway, she said Mandie is NOT dehydrated and her gums look good and she didn't whimper or whine when being examined (pressed on). She said that her stomach wasn't destended or anything. Her advice was to give an injection now and some meds to stop the "cycle" of symptoms. I told hubby I wanted bloodwork to check her pancreas and such so he had her get on the phone with me. She pretty much told me that even if it was a pancreatic attack that we caught it super early and this is how she would treat first anyway. She gave Mandie meds to start taking tomorrow and said Mandie can't eat or drink for a few hours after going home today (after the injection that she gave). If Mandie is still showing symptoms or anything on tomorrow, we are to bring her back in and she'll runs some bloodwork and possibly an ultrasound or xray. Since they are open tomorrow and she thinks the treatment at this point would be the same, I told her to go ahead with this. One thing I did want to ask you guys about or vent about - Hubby told me that the vet told him that shaking was NOT a sign of pain. I almost came thru the phone when he told me that. I wish he'd told me that while still at the vet's office so I could confront her about that statement. This is my 2nd vet since getting Mandie. If this doesn't go well (meaning, I don't trust her either), I'll end up probably taking Mandie to yet another vet in the future. I have got to find someone in Montgomery, AL that has yorkies and has a vet that KNOWS all about toy breeds. Okay, that was my vent/ramble. My question is: I'm right, right? Shaking can mean pain. I know it can mean other things but pain is one of them...right???? Thanks again everyone!! |
Mandie Thanks for the detailed update. But it seems it is still a mystery? I hope the meds given were for good reason. At least it looks like nothing major going on in her abdomen, good news! I guess you just have to wait it out to see if she improves? I am surprised that the shaking symptoms did not get much of a reaction from the vet, that would worry me. Good luck and get well soon Mandie. Prayers for you and mom and dad. |
Yeah, I wasn't too thrilled with the no diagnosis but if it continues tomorrow, you better believe I'll be demanding one! ;) Okay, now that I'm home, I can tell you they gave her 3 injections total (in her shoulder) for nausea, a corticosteroid, and penicillin. The meds we are to give her, starting tomorrow, are 1 cc/twice a day of Amoxi Drops and 1/2 of a 16mg tablet of cerenia per day. When she got home, she went straight to her crate (she never goes in her crate) and laid there for a while. I'm guessing she was stressed from the vet visit and probably sleepy from the injection (most likely the nausea injection). But now..2 hours later..she went outside with me and pee'd fine and pooped really good :D I'm getting ready to give her some chicken and rice for dinner (vet said she could eat her reg food, but just for tonight...I'm going with what MOM feels best lol) Thank you again for your support and prayers. Please keep praying that this resolves now and she doesn't have to go back tomorrow for more tests. |
Man die Poor little baby, no wonder she hiding in her crate after all the prodding and shots. Looks as if the vet took care of every possibility with the three meds. That Cerenia drug is marvelous!!! When my dog had gastritis after surgery and was very nauseous it worked wonders very quickly. Let us hope that she feels better tomorrow as other than throwing up she seems in good shape. The Cerenia should kick in and she will be eating well soon. So praying all will be well soon and little Mandie will be over this, and mom and dad can sleep through the night with no worries. I for one am so grateful for your updates, we get caught up in all as if it were our own! Many have been through what you are and we know how stressful it is. Hoping that mom's chicken stays down and that Mandie sleeps well. You do know best!! |
Mandie Sorry about the Man die title, my iPad does its own thing with what I type. It feels IT knows best. LOL! |
So happy to read Mandie is doing well! I know you are so relieved. |
It's frustrating when they don't give you a diagnosis & prescribe all these meds...why is she on antibiotics...to get rid of the fungi??? I hope Mandie is feeling better! |
I know right? I think doctors of all kinds (for people and animals) are way too antibiotic happy. Well, Mandie seems to be doing okay..no more throwing up and she's eating good. I gave her the meds (even the antibiotic drops). The only thing is she hasn't pooped today and I think she has eaten very well. So, I have one stool softner left for her from her spay...told hubby to give it to her if she doesn't poo by noon. Question: can rice cause them to be constipated? if not, I guess it is the meds. |

Mandie WTG Mandie!!! So glad to hear you are feeling better, keep up the good work! Could be the rice and/ or antibiotics causing constipation. Also her diet has probably not been as usual while she was sick. Do not worry as it has only been a day with no poop. I feel she should keep on the Cerenia for a couple of days to be sure. Perhaps with vet approval you could stop the AB though if she does not have an infection? These dogs sure recover quickly thank goodness, but worry us while they are sick. So happy for you, hope all continues to be well. |
I'm so glad Mandie is doing better! I tend to get hypoglycemic and when my blood sugar gets very low, I get shaky. I wonder if her shaking was related to low blood sugar from vomiting and not eating? |
I'm glad Mandie is feeling better! |
Mandie Hi. So happy she is doing well. What medications is she still now on and what do you think was the cause of the upset? I know my little one sometimes has upsets for a day or so and it justs gets better with no meds. The mystery tummy upset!! Merry Christmas and healthy dogs! |
