A fracture in the elbow joint which has almost healed itself, therefore the success rate of surgery is not good. The break is in a bad place in the joint. Had we gone directly to a surgeon after the injury the story would probably be different. I wasted over 2 weeks going back and forth to our vet. The other option offered is to let nature take its course as it has been doing for the past 3 weeks and let it heal on its own. Arthritis is a given in this case but he may also end up with arthritis after surgery too. If we don't go with surgery he will need meds eventually for inflammation.
Has anyone been in this position before? I'm leaning towards not having the surgery. I just can't see putting this little guy through it for such an iffy outcome. I would be more than willing to spend the money on the surgery if the prognosis was going to be good. Am I making the right decision? He does not seem to be in any pain and has pretty much stopped limping. I'm thinking of making an appointment with the holistic vet that was recommended on YT. She's from our area. Maybe physical therapy too. Oh and the surgeon told me he can not play hard with his sister or run while he's a puppy. Any suggestions on that one? They both live to play with each other! Thank you. |
