I will definitely be praying for King and for you and your mom as you go thru this. Keep us posted ok? |
Please go to a vet not Banfield I dont trust those people at all. Their uneducated, most are un licensed "Vet Techs". Praying for the lil one. |
Has anyone been through Cancer with their Yorkie and they survived? Hi everyone. I talked this morning about the illness with King and my mom was heartbroken. We made an appointment for Tuesday to take him in and have an ultrasound done on his little abdomen. My mom wanted for me to ask everyone on here if they experienced anything similar, also what happened with your baby, did they survive and how was their treatment. We want to do whats best for the little boy and can't imagine a day without him. There is no cost too great to do what is needed to keep him around. King is not a mere pet, he is part of our family, like a brother, or a son. Please let me know of your experiences. Thanks! |
No experience. But sending hugs and prayers. |
I'm sorry to hear, and hope that it's not cancer. I don't have experience with cancer either. Just want to send you some positive thoughts. |
I don't have any answers for you, but I will pray that it doesn't turn out to be cancer. Hugs to you and your Mom...and, of course, King! |

For now, it is best to think positive. Just take him for his ultrasound and then, once you have a definitive diagnosis, you will be able to plan better. It may very well not be cancer...and even if it is, some of the cancers are treatable. Just try to have a good weekend with King! I will keep him and you and your mother in my thoughts and prayers. |

As LadyJane said it might not be cancer, and until you know if it is and what type of cancer, some cancers do respond well to treatment. Let;s not jump the gun. It is hard, and the worry will still be there, but don't despair! And yes I had a young dog with cancer, but it presented much differently than your dogs' symptoms. It was lymphoma. There are three kinds of lymphoma and the kind she had was very aggressive. Unfortunately she was multi drug resistant and chemo was not effective. We lost her on MOther's Day weekend this year. Just keep your chin up and enjoy every moment of time with your King:) |
I am so sorry to hear about King but the diagnosis is not in yet so we will all be praying for you baby. They truly are family members we completely understand. I did look up Vet oncology in Spokane and found these links. Hopefully you will not need to use them. good for you for finding a different vet, banfield I do not like, hope he is better soon |
Thank you to everyone that has helped us. Monday morning we woke up and king was super excited and happy, i thought maybe he was better so I took him back to the vet to have another blood panel done. They checked his proteins and they were even higher than the initial count. She thought the medicine 'carafate' that she gave for his possible ulcer was doing the trick but we still needed to do the ultrasound today. |
I am glad to hear King is feeling better. Sending prayers for his continued improvement and hopes that there in nothing seriously wrong! |
Hope King is doing well. I hope the ultrasound went well. Keeping him in our prayers!! |
Hope all went well today... |
Checking in to see how the Ultra Sound went today. Prayers do still continue for King. |
Just checking in on King and his ultra sound....how did it go....? |
Ultrasound is back! So, we did the ultrasound and there was no clear signs of cancer:D however, there is still something wrong with our little boy. They did a needle aspirate of his liver and spleen and then we took him home. Unfortunately its $1100 later and there is still no answers. Our vet called this morning and let us know the aspirate tests showed no clear issue. After some questions my vet told us that the brand of treats we have been giving King, 'Milo's brand chicken strips" is being noted as causing dogs to become seriously ill so we are thinking of that as the main cause of his illness. I am still administering the 1 mg. of Carafate every 8 hours and she wants us to continue that for another week. When he missed a dose he began to vomit and become lethargic and sad. There is definitely something wrong. I also talked with the vet. King came to us from another family. We got him about 2 1/2 years ago. The other family kept him in a kennel for about 9 hours a day while they worked and again when they slept. He was brought here from Japan where he was purchased. His previous owners were in the military. When they brought him to the US he was placed in quarantine for about 6 weeks. He bacame ill and he almost died. He was on IV fluids and received several blood transfusions. He is a miracle boy just for being here and we are doing everything we can to keep him well. The vet also said that with his history with the previous owners, he was 'neglected' to a point. With us, there is always someone home and we keep him free to move around. We have never kenneled him. He is exceptionally attached to my mom and when she goes out-of-town for business, he gets stressed. Our vet is wondering if King has worried himself into an ulcer with a severe case of seperation anxiety. She thinks it would be wise to think of getting a small companion dog for King. We would love to adopt another little Yorkie. She needs to be his size or smaller the vet thinks he will do the best with that size and not be threatened by a female as he may be with a male. He is fixed so we are NOT trying to become breeders. If anyone knows of anyone looking for a FANTASTIC home for a young 6lb or less female Yorkie at a reasonalbe price since we have all the vet bills for King, please let me know. I don't know if I am allowed to ask that on here, if I offend anyone than I apologize. Thank you so much everyone for all of your prayers and well wishes.;) |
I am SO glad they did not find anything dreadful!! :) As for a companion...he may or may not adjust. Something you need to think about long and hard as he has always been an only pup. Not saying it would not work, but I would definitely suggest a rescue...and one that thoroughly evaluates their pups and their temperaments...and one that carefully screens you and also does a home visit. A reputable rescue will work with you to find the right fit. You can start out by looking on Petfinder.com ... if you need any help checking things out, feel free to PM me. I would not suggest a puppy...they are often a pain to older pups....they are very playful and full of energy and can annoy them. |
Oh I am so glad you went to a good vet. I hope and pray the King is getting better and will be back to his good health. These Yorkies need immediate attention when something is not right. Good for you going in right away. God bless little King with health and happy times! |
I'm so happy it isn't cancer. I'm still praying for King's recovery and that the vet figures out what the underlying issue is. |
Still praying for your King:love: It very well could be the Milo's treats, they are made in China and have been known to make some dogs very sick, and even die:( You can easily make him chicken jerky in the oven, google for instructions. I'd use a high quality chicken breast. BIG hugs to you, so glad it's not cancer! Hopefully now that he's not getting those treats he will feel better:love: |
