Luma isn't feeling well. She's had very bad diahrrea that is runny and sometimes looks like it has mucous in it? I don't know... Nothing changed. She didn't get into anything as far as I know. She's also vomited a couple times over the past few days. I'm going to try the pumpkin...it's just pumpkin puree with no spices or sugar added, correct? Should I cook for her? Rice and chicken or what? I don't know. It's been like this for a week or so. It usually resolves itself but I know her tummy must hurt, and I feel bad. |
I don't have any suggestions other than the pumpkin and chicken/rice. I just wanted to say I hope Luma feels better soon! |
Poor Luma, I would take her into the vet- |

What does your vet say to do? |
Over a week of that..............Vet visit for sure. I hope she feels better soon. I can't stand it when my babies are sick!!!! |
I haven't called the vet. It was off and on for the first few days, and straight liquid today and yesterday. |
Poor Luma, I pray she feels better soon. I agree with the others, I would see your vet. |

A week or so?????????? I would have been at the vet Day 3, if not sooner! If she keeps with the diarrhea, she can get what is called a "slick gut"....that is where all the normal flora in her intestines is gone....I would see what the vet says to do....before she gets dehydrated and down. |
|
Please take her to the vet. Tomarrow is Friday and you could end up at the EV if it gets worse. That would cost more and it wouldnt be her Dr. |

LOL agreed! I have the "bat line, red phone" to the vet. Waffles acts funny for more than half a day she goes to vet. |
Hoping Luma feels better soon... I agree with others... I would take her in in to the Vet. |
Poor Luma!!!! I hope she feels better soon. This is the pumpkin we use Organic Pumpkin - Farmer's Market Foods We can find it at Target, and also in the organic aisles of the grocery stores (specifically Giant in our area... not sure what you have down there in TX) |
Hoping she feels better. I would give the vet a call |

Carmen, you need to know what is going on so you can fix her. She's probably getting weak, maybe cramping, nauseated, who knows? Could have some IBS and need some professional help to get her past it. Tibbe had a bout of IBS that lasted 6 weeks back in early summer though I took him in the first day of symptoms. Go on ahead and get her in, get a diagnosis and get her started on treatment. Might need prescription food, some meds, etc., if it is IBS but whatever it is, I pray she's treated & feeling herself before long! |
I posted mainly to get suggestions on what kind of pumpkin to get and if rice and chicken will help. Thanks Sarah for being helpful. I know my dog and I won't deny her vet care if she needs it, but at this moment I don't feel like it's urgent. She had diahrrea in the morning after she ate but solid since then. She's not acting lethargic or depressed, she's running around playing with her toys and "talking to me". I'll bring her in if her poops become consistently runny or the mucous is yellow or bloody. It's just clear. Thanks for everyone's opinions! Luma says she appreciates everyones concern. |
I got her new treats recently, now that I think of it. She refuses to do any commands while on the tile floor, only on carpet. She hates skidding across the kitchen floor. She finally decided treats are worth doing tricks in the kitchen, so I praised her extra. That could definitely be contributing to her tummy troubles! Looks like we're back to little to no treats! Poor girl. I can't believe some dogs eat tons of milkbones and pupperoni and god knows what else. Luma is pretty limited on treats and I shouldn't have pushed her limits. I was just excited the queen decided to grace me with a handshake while not on carpet  |
Sorry she is not feeling well. To answer your question. Just use regular canned pumpkin not pumpkin pie filling. You do not have to cook it. Just put that mixed in her food. Also just make boiled chicken and mix some rice with it. Or you can just put plain rice in with her food. I would though take her to the vet. Good luck I hope she gets better soon |
I am sorry she's not feeling well... I hope the pumpkin works. Feel better soon Luma! |
Hope Luma feels better soon:love: Some probiotics would be very beneficial for her, imho. The pumpkin usually will work in a day or less for us, Izzy has runny poo once in a blue moon (she likes to eat stuff outside before I can stop her:rolleyes:!) Is she drinking good? Dehydration is a concern. |
Bella started that one day out of the blue....after just 3 events I took her to the vet and she was already dehydrated........She needed meds and IV fluids. Please take her in the weekend is here and you can avoid an ER visit. Keep us posted |
hope luma is feeling better. |

I have to watch treats with mine too. they like plain Cheerios and Gerber's Graduate Puffs (most flavors), or plain cut up chicken that I cook and freeze. With store bought treats, somebody will be tossing their cookies, or having diarrhea. I think most are too rich, and have too many flavorings/preservatives. Mine didn't care for the Cheerios at first, but after the 3-4th day, they loved them. Peek won't eat his dinner without a few sprinkled on top! A 50/50 mix of chicken and plain white rice (Uncle Ben's) is a bland diet, and would be good for any general tummy upset. (unless she's allergic to grains!) The mucous may be shedding of the intestinal lining, and can sometimes contain tinges of blood, depending on the level of irritation. If blood is present, it's a good idea to seek treatment as antibiotics may be warranted to control infection. Giardia will also give a mucousy poop, with a very foul odor.... |
I've been in bed really sick, but wanted to say that last night we got the pumpkin and she really loved it, lol...I cooked her food early this morning and let her eat small portions over the day so she wasnt eating too much too fast. She's been fine all day so far. |

Teddy is very sensitive to treats/any diet additions. We use kibble for trick rewards and the boys love it. I deduct the kibble from their daily allowance. Sure he would probably go nuts if I handed him Pupperoni, but really the value of the treat is in how you present it. |
Luma was doing great and having normal stools, until today when I came home from work. I noticed a trail all over the house of blood spots. There was quite a lot of blood on her potty pad, enough to scare me. We also saw poop on the carpet with mucus and blood. Off to the vet. We are here now and they're running fecal, giardia, and parvo test. Not sure what's up yet. |
