Always love your posts EllieMay. Very reasonable and understanding. Great post. ^ While amputating wouldn't be MY personal choice, I also agree that giving a dog to a rescue is a bit extreme. And I CAN guarantee that Jackson WOULD rather stay with me and lose one limb than go somewhere else and keep it. If it came down to that. Thanks for updating us. Still praying and thinking of you whatever decision you make. |
JUST FOR THE RECORD: I have NEVER suggested the OP turn her pup over to rescue. OP, I as I said before, I am willing to do what I can to help you and your pup. Let me know if you need me. |
Im on the phone with Texas A & M Now.....they said they can take Bella but I will have to have $130 tonight and Half of the payment to fix her leg and then I pay the rest on a payment plan OH MY GOD! I wish I would have known this before i took her to that emergency hospital last night. I'm going to apply for care credit after they give me the estimate |

Ellie I'm not sure why your apologizing for this threads direction, this thread has given the the OP and others to come tons of valuable information. The OP was given advice and the thread has evolved into a very good discussion, albeit somewhat heated, none the less a good thread for others to refer to down the line. I also, don't agree with you about an amputation not being the "same" for a dog, I'm not sure what you mean by this but I can say that an amputation is profoundly life changing for any dog, cat or human....the comparison to the human, if thats what you were referring to, is beyond the scope of what this thread, IMHO is about. OP, my tenant had a dog whose left leg and tail had to be amputated after being hit by a truck, she was unable to afford it, so she gave her baby away...so I understand how you feel. I think all of us would do whatever is necessary to help our pups, (most of us anyway) I personally think that most of us here if given the choice to fix and lose, or amputate and keep...would probably fix and lose...again just my opinion. None of us are with OP so we don't know the extent of whats going on, however; I think she has demonstrated that she will do what ever she has to for her baby girl. We will continue to support her, regardless of her decision, because we all empathize... OP keep us posted, we are here for you..... prayers for you and your baby... |

Its an absolute last resort and horribly preditory lending practice IMO but payday loan adance companies might be an emergency cash advance option, unless your employer gi es pay day advances or you can't charge it. Awful suggestion I know but if your back is to wall...just exhaust every otger option first. Thanks gor updating. These threads are here forever and it will show ithers what you are going through |

When you apply for Care Credit, they ask for an amount. Shoot high....they will give you what they want no matter what you ask for. But, if you ask for less, they will not give more! |
Okay...my suggestion for this case is to go to indiegogo.com and write up a sad story. If that woman on the school bus ended up almost a millionaire, surely this yorkie can get enough donations for leg surgery! :) Hopefully, Alisha is doing that right now! :) |
I've just read this post for the first time and it makes me very sad. I don't know how many of you actually have dogs that have had their legs amputated or have gone through the process, but it is very difficult decision and one that should not be taken without A LOT of thought. I rescued a little guy that had been injured and tried to do everything to save his leg. I went to three different vets before I finally agreed to let them amputate. I would never, ever make the decision to amputate if a leg could possibly be saved. I can also tell you of the three vets I took him to, not one of them would have amputated the leg had there been any chance to save it. It's a terrible surgery with a huge, painful incision. They have to learn to walk with the one remaining leg to compensate balance either in the front or back...if it's a male and they have lifted their leg in the past, and it's a front amputation, they will continue to try to lift their leg and fall over for months after the amputation...and we have not even discussed the pain of the amputation itself. Sometimes you have no option but to amputate - then you must. I'm not sure when, in this thread, it became a decision of either keeping the dog and amputating the leg OR saving the leg and giving him up. The OP said in Post # 24 that she did not want to amputate the leg...I think we should all stay on track and try to support her and help her come up with ideas to help her save this baby's leg. I think A&M is a fabulous idea. i don't think you will get better care anywhere! Good luck to you, OP - give your baby an extra kiss tonight...he's very lucky to have you fighting for him! |
