I am so glad that Ranger is home is doing well. Just wondering was it Hypoglycemia. |
Glad to hear the good news!!! |
Glad all is ok now..... |
I am so glad to hear about your baby....these things can be very scary!!! |
The sooner you catch it the better out come... :D Nutri-cal is another solution for this and nurti-drop for the more serious cases... Glad to hear he is on the road to recovery...Yah, Ranger!!!! |
yes it was on top of being really dehydrated from throwing up so they yold me to always have Karo syrup and put it on his gums if i see signs, i was told small breed dogs have these attacks frequently and with Ranger only weighing 1lb 7 oz at 4 months they told me i have to be very careful Jordan |
Im so glad hes feeling better. |
It does sound like a hypoglycemic attack....since the vet told you to use Karo syrup. One of my dogs was diabetic, and I was told that if she ever acted the way you described your dog behaving -- to smear Karo syrup inside her mouth. And - she did have an episode one time and after using the Karo syrup, she was back to normal in just a minute or two. Hopefully, it will never happen again. But, do have the Karo syrup near by in case you need to use it. And, if you have several recurrent episodes - you should probably take her back to the vet just to doublecheck everything again. I don't know about this (check with your vet). I read that one person gives her dog a teaspoon of Karo syrup every day - this might help keep your dog from having this problem in the future. Boy - if I put Karo syrup on my dog's food - he'd love it. Carol Jean |
Can this be a problem with adult Yorkies as well? |

It is much more scary when it is the teeny little babies that get sick...since there is almost nothing to them ! I call my little Candi "The Worm".....lol Dehydration comes on quickly and the Vet told me you must always be on guard as they could die within hours. Actually when I took my 10 lb Yorkie to the vet because he was throwing up and had bloody diareaha the first thing she said was "this is HGE and he could die from it"....OMG I totally freaked and and he had to be admitted to the doggie hospital on IV antibiotics and hydration. Within a few weeks 2 of my others got the same thing and I did not even wait until morning to take them to the vet...still they were bad enough that they had to be hospitalized. I tried feeding the Pedialite with a dropper but as fast as it went down it came back up. It was all a terrible experience and I am getitng chills just writing about it. :( :( |
yes this can be a problem with all small breed dogs the vet told me just to have Karo syrup at the house and if they seem to get lathargic or comit put a little on your finger and let them lick it off to keep thier sugar levels up. Did you have a similar experience? |
