Update on Teddy's eye - keep him in your prayers today Teddy was admitted to Tufts University vet hospital last night through their ER. The abscess behind his eye was getting bigger and more swollen. He's going to be put under general anesthesia today for a CT scan and treatment. The situation in the eye is too close to the optic nerve and brain to wait any more time and the medications aren't working. The diagnosis is abscess vs swelling vs other (other as in eye tumors). They are not sure if this is related to the dental extractions or something else. We will know more after the CT scan. Please keep Teddy in your prayers today. |

Teddy info I just talked to the vet in charge of Teddy's case. This morning Teddy's eye was more swollen and red than when he was admitted so they rechecked the pressure in his eye which thankfully was still normal. They will continue to monitor for any signs of abnormal pressure. They are rolling him into his CT scan now. Since they started him on the medications to get him ready for the scan, he was sedated. They examined his mouth and found nothing suspcious - nothing oozing, no swelling or any of that. They believe he may had an infected tooth root. By the luck (or unluck!) of the draw, they think perhaps another tooth not previously identified during his dental radiographs three weeks ago could be the culprit. The vet said for sure the dentist would have pulled everything funky three weeks ago but that something else could have crept up. Teddy may need a dental radiograph if the CT scan shows a pocket of pus (abscess). If this is the case, unfortunately, it cannot be done today as dentistry is not there until Monday. I asked if the CT scan could wait and be done at the same time Monday and she felt we needed to progress today with imaging. Poor Teddy will have to likely undergo another general anesthesia procedure on Monday after today which has me worried again but it must be done for his health so we will progress accordingly. I'll know more in a couple of hours. For now we are still just having some theories....Keep the prayers going. BTW Teddy is being a really sweet and good boy for them. They like him! |
Still praying, praying and praying. |

News Teddy is in recovery and doing well. The CT scan showed several very small pockets of fluid behind his eye and in the area where the tooth was extracted. So they now do not think there is a new tooth involved but that there is a root of a tooth left inside where the tooth was removed OR some other complication inside that area from the dental surgery. The other possibility which cannot be ruled out at this time is that it is a cancerous process. We will know that when the pathology results from the sample they took are complete in a few days. She again asked me if he chews on sticks as something might have gotten lodged (even temporarily) and caused an infection. So we are leaning toward an infectious process behind the eye stemming from the area where the tooth was removed. He's coming home tonight with a cocktail of medications and is being readmitted monday morning for the dental department to assess and radiograph the area. The eye is stable without pressure within the eye and he is ok to come home for the weekend. Poor Teddy, he has a few more days of this until we know for sure. At least he can rest with his family until then. |
Glad he is in recovery and doing well. AWWW Poor Teddy. I pray he has a restful weekend. I will certainly be sending out prayers on Monday for him and you as well. |
