I think I got them (I have two :)) from Yorkie Haven, a rescue place, they have awesome things. Love em, and I needed to get two cause Muffy and Cassie used to fight over the bed, even †hough they could both fit on it 10X over. Very funny to see. But I don't let Cassie on this bed any more. It's like she has to climb a mountain to get on top of it and I don't want her hopping her way up to the top, so it's just a plain old flat boring bed with no sides for Cassie, I feel bad, but what can I do, her safety is the most important thing. Maybe some day she will once again have her froggy bed.:)

Thank you. I am blessed to be their human. They own me heart and soul, completely. Yes, BOTH Muffin AND ESPECIALLY Cassie (cause she is about half Muffins size) got xylitol poisoning. One of the worst times of my life. Cassie was in the ER for almost a week and on oxygen. She almost died. Muffin was sick too, but not as bad as Cassie due to her extreme tiny size. I call her my miracle fur child.

Wow, that is so funny. We love that bed, me and the girls. It's the most awesome bed they have. I'm constantly washing these beds because it's all they want to lay on, and i mean, they have tons of beds, all over the house. But their froggy beds, well, no one can go near them. They are very protective of their froggy beds.

I just got my first YHR bed in the mail today but I haven't opened it yet. I want to be able to take pictures when I give it to them and I didn't have time today. I'm excited to open it.

So I called my holistic vet earlier this week to tell her about what was going on with Cassie and that I wanted to have an MRI at VSH. She told me she would do some research on what Doctors were best for me and get back to me. She was also supposed to send the phosphorous in the mail for Cassie. I waited for several day until I got tired of waiting and decided to take some action myself because I didn't hear from her. I call her office today to leave an update of the plan to see Dr. Lipsitz on Tues. July 3rd and I think i said also that Dr. Feinberg was going to call Dr. Lipsitz about Cassie, as well as Dr. Bob who will speak to him also discussing Cassie.

I then get an email message telling me that she wants me to see Dr. Stevenson instead because she thinks I would do better with a woman, and they called and made an appointment with her for us on July 5th, and to cancel the appointment with Dr. Lipsitz on July 3rd. Like why was this done only after I called.... made the appointment with DR. L, and arranged for two doctors to talk to him about Cassie? I feel kind of....I don't know, puzzled, hurt, upset, confused, and weird. I feel funny now having to cancel this appointment with Dr. L. Do you think i am wrong? I mean, so what if he's a man, I have nothing against dealing with men. If he is more experienced then I want to go with the more experienced person. On the other hand if she's more experienced, then I'd rather go with her. Actually,it is strange to hear that she wants me to see one over the other due to gender. Everyone who has met Dr. Lipsitz says what a nice guy he is and that he
he's an excellent neuro, so I am a bit surprised at her attitude. What do you think?

Who is Dr. Stevenson? Website? As for her comment about you doing better with a woman......choosing a good vet has nothing to do with sex.

I know this may sound odd.. But I checked out the surgeon I was going to used for bailey on yelp. Yelp can give you info on how people felt about the surgeon..office staff ect. There must be a way to find out about experience ?

She is one of the three neuro's at VSH. There is Dr. Lipsitz, Dr. Stevenson, and Dr. Litivsky (I'm not sure I have this last name right). I guess Dr. Stevenson is the only female. I mean, I do love working with women, but there has to be more of a reason to choose a doctor than just gender, doesn't there?

I've been lurking on your thread, reading & learning what I can & following Cassie's case. I sure hope the vets can find a good way to deal with her problem. It is so scary to read about this disease but with the successes that many have dealing with it, encouraging as well. I will be praying for Cassie & you. P. S. My Tibbe has one of Ladyjane's Cloud 9 beds. Now I have to check out the other bed you mentioned!

I would want to know which one of the surgeons has handled these issues in the past. Usually they have an interest in one area...

Just to clarify, just spoke to my Vet's staff and she told me that my vet does not like to refer to Dr. Lipsitz because he is not open to holistic medicine, and also Dr. Stephenson is very experienced with Cassies issues. Also she feels that CASSIE not me, needs a female doctor. All in all I can deal with it, but they made the appointment in their other facility, which is a lot closer to me, but does not have an MRI machine, so I would have to go to the other campus any way. I told her tech to make the appointment with Dr. Stephenson ASAP in the facility that has the MRI machine so that I can get the results ASAP and so that I don't have to go twice. So I am going now to cancel Dr Lipsitz and will await the call as to when I can see Dr. S. I don't know how many AAI surgeries she has done, but I will ask her when I see her.

I'd ask before you cancel that appt.... AAI cannot be treated holistically so that doesn't really matter... I'd go with most experienced... sometimes women vets are recommended because in general, they may be gentler and their hands are smaller than a man's hands.

No disrespect to your holistic vet, but she missed the ball on this one...and I quite frankly would not care for her opinion....or her thoughts on holistic medicine for Cassie. AAI is NOT treatable by any holistic methods. :(

There is a place for holistic and I don't think this is it.
You need to ask questions FIRST before going...not after. I would ask for the credentials of each surgeon and their area of expertise and then make my OWN decision.

Which, imho, is ridiculous. Size of hands does not make a good vet and or surgeon. I have seen people say this before and have never understood it.

I definitely would not have cancelled my appt without having the full scoop on all of the surgeons in that facility.

It is kind of odd/funny... smaller hands and fingers manipulate better/easier... I see it mostly for spays on tinies... rather have a slender lady finger going in than a big old man finger...lol. Most times instruments are used anyway...

I think it is ridiculous. Fingers are not going into tiny spots in spinal surgery. A man operated on my Maxwell with good results. He had two herniated cervical discs.

So isn't this a good thing? It sounds as if she is experienced with the AAI and that Cassie would be in good hands? I hope so because I did cancel the appt with Dr L.

I do not buy into smaller hands = better surgeon either. That's why someone invented instruments.

As for the AAI stuff, OP -- if you are near UC Davis, then consider Dr Beverly Sturges who is a neurosurgeon. I got her name from my dog's neurologist once for a friend. My dog's neurologist is very well known here in Boston and I trust him.

As for the holistic vet - I will keep quiet but simply say I'd be deleting her from my contacts.

It says she is proficient at it. Depends on how many she has done and the success and/or failure rate.

I agree with 107barney....I would probably be at UC Davis. All you are doing now is testing, so that should be fine. I will say that before I would agree to surgery, I would get a second opinion.

I am no where near UC Davis, it is about 500 miles away from us. I cannot go there with both girls and my dad. It is way too much for me to handle alone, and my dad not only has a serious enough heart condition that his doctor would never let him travel that far by plane or car, but he has dementia as well, and I am the only caregiver. He just had a pacemaker inserted and I am supposed to manage all his health and meds. This would be overwhelming and impossible for me at this time.

I am told that there are many UC Davis Vets at VSH and they even have a campus at VSH. They are associated with each other. I do feel good about VSH, they are considered a premier facility in southern California. And Davis is closely affiliated with VSH. I will have to talk with Dr. Stevenson to find out how many AAI surgeries she has done, and how many successful outcomes. And what were the reasons for the unsuccessful outcomes. Until then, we are just waiting!!!!
