help me please :( I need help me and Jess came home to find Ellie in another coma. The Dr said her hydrosyphalis is so bad that she had four holes in her skull. So we are trying to decide if we should put her down . We have been bawling our eyes out all night. Can she still be helped:( |
How old is she? Has she been on prednisone? |
Mild cases may not need treatment, but other cases may need surgery to redirect the excess fluid into another part of the body. Medicines are available to decrease cerebrospinal fluid production or reduce intracranial pressure. I would imagine you could go to a vet school where there would be specialist that could assess the possibility of a successful outcome from surgery..... |
Nevermind... I just read her history on here.... Is she still on Prilosec and prednisone? Sometimes as they grow the holes will close... Surgery may be an option... a specialist may be in order... |

I am so sorry your Ellie is so sick. If you can go there, I highly recommend Texas A&M at College Station. I was there this past year and saw the neuro department with one of my foster pups who has hydrocephalus and a few other neuro issues. They will advise you about whether anything else can be done. At least then, no matter what, you will know that you did all that you can. I will keep all of you in my thoughts and prayers. |
I am so very sorry! I have no advice, just lots of prayers. I know that your heart is breaking. I think ladyjane is right. You would get your best information so you can make the best decision from TX A&M. Please let us know how your baby is. |
I hope your little Ellie is doing better today.....have you been able to think about what you will do? I know how devastating this is for you....I used to have a little Chi with this and it broke my heart. |
Sorry for the delay in responses, My internet would not hook up to me laptop and my phone was giving me issues. We have thought long and hard, we don't want to lose baby girl, this baby girl has stole our hearts completely. She has an appointment today with our vet we are hoping they can do something about the swelling and her diabeties. As soon as I get her under control I will look into Texas A&M my only worry is that she is only a pound full grown so a lot of doctors are concerned that even the smallest amount of anasticia will kill her. This poor baby has had one hell of a life. |

Keep us posted and I will definitely keep her in my thoughts and prayers. |
keeping ellie in my thoughts and prayers for a solution. sorry you and she have to endure this..sending postive thoughts. hugs. |
Thank you all LadyJane I will absolutely ask him about Texas A&M and how to get us in there. Ok what else should I ask him, I remember to test the Acid Bile, obviously her sugar levels, she will more than likely have an x-ray. Is there anything that I am missing? That could help me? Max and Ellie are my first rescued Yorkies, We lost Max I don't want to lose Ellie. I love her like she is my daughter. |
Hi KJC She is on the prednisone but I think that Ray's Pharmacy mixed the prilosec wrong because when I got her second prescription, her system went haywire and she stopped eating and drinking, she stopped walking (Which she still isnt) God I can't stop crying, We had her to a point where she was finally growing beautiful healthy fur, walking, wagging her tail, eating out of a bowl, going to the bathroom normally. Now She wont walk, we have to hand feed her every couple of hours, her fur is all wirey, I have to poor water into a bottle cap for her to drink it, and she goes to the bathroom where she lays. Her right eye is all swollen :( and her breathe is really bad, my life partner says its from the diebeties, it smells like death. Quote:

I cannot say enough about A&M. If you go there, they will look at the "whole dog" and do whatever testing is needed. They are so unbelievably thorough. It is a bit pricey though...just to let you know ahead of time. With pups that are hospitalized, they do have a payment plan but for one day testing, they do not. |
Ok great, well with her I think this is going to take some time because this poor baby has so much going on. It's just not fair to her and to us as her parents. I wish they would stop making these babies. |

I wish the breeding would slow down and be more responsible but I hate to say this...it just gets worse each year. You might think that people would listen and care...but the greedy breeders simply don't care. :( |

I will be thinking about this poor baby... I hope they are able to help you at A&M. |
I am so sorry to hear this. I've been reading about little Ellie. I'm praying for your little one. She is precious and deserves to live the great life you have provided her! |
Thank you so much everyone, I took her to the vet yesterday. Here is what he said, Her breath is bad because her baby teeth are falling out.. he pulled her two top ones out. Her adult ones are in, they just grew in around her baby ones. She has not gained any weight or lost it either, she is still exactly one pound. He thinks her liver is gone because he thinks she is not absorbing the nutrients. Her head is swollen *duh* but her hearing and sight are perfect, heart is perfect. He told us he thinks it would be in our best interest to put her down because neurogically she is doing bad. He said his report for her is poor. (It's always poor no matter where I take her) he said she is not in pain at all. I did tell him about the meds not working properly and also to check her acid bile. He didnt. We told him we wanted a referal to Texas A&M and we will take our chances. so he is calling today to get our referal and he put her on 4 meds. One for her eyes, one for the water on the brain, another to prevent water from forming, another form of steriods and a med to prevent anything from happening to her liver, stomach and kidneys while on the meds. We want to fight as long as Ellie Mae does. She will tell us if she is ready to give up. Am I wrong? Am I wishing for too much here? I love her so much and she knows it! She sees me and Jess and her tail goes crazy no matter how she is feeling. |
As long as she's not in pain, I don't see a problem with going a few steps further to A&M to see what more could be done to help her. Then you will have more info if it comes down to making any decisions. Good Luck and many prayers sent for your baby... |
I am keeping all of you in my thoughts and prayers. Keep us posted. |
I am so sorry that you and Ellie are going through such a hard time |
Oh, I just wanna cry for you and your little one. I hope that A & M can give you some good news. I don't think you're wrong for wanting to fight for her, as long as she's not in any pain. It's fantastic that your little darling has such caring parents that will move Heaven and Earth to help her. Every dog should be so lucky! Prayers continuing for y'all:love: |
Hugs to you and little Ellie. I'm praying that you get good news when you take her for her referral. |
