What if I got a thunder shirt? Would that help? I have been sleeping on the floor with him for a week to keep him from jumping on the bed.. or crying |
It may calm him down some. |
Shinja...I am so sorry to hear this news of Bailey in pain. My daughter's yorkie had a ruptured disc and did go paralyzed in his back legs, but he came out of it and started walking again. It was a long ordeal and we had to keep him in a cat crate, but he got through it and we were so thankful. I'll say a prayer for Bailey and for you! *HUG* |

What worked for us was car rides! He love going for a ride, even if we didn't have a walk at the end of the ride. He was out of his crate at home, and in a crate in the car; but at least he got some air blowing in his face, and a different environment. I also have a ramp for our van, that I make him use, to enter and exit the car. Although with your Bailey you could probably pick him up I guess? Does Bailey like massage? That is helpful too. Just gentle touch, it is soothing. Also some energy work can be very relaxing as well. You can start with your dog relaxing on the floor. Gently place your hand over their sacrum(the bone between their two buttocks), and other hand at the nape of their neck. Hold until you feel a lovely warmth develop, then remove your hands, about two inches away from body, and stroke from head to tail. You are literally just stroking the air right above their body. I'll keep my fingers crossed until we find out what the specialist has to say. Hugs to you and kisses to Bailey - |
Thanks... I know you are having your trials too. It is amazing how much we love our fur babies... So true- hopefully we can get our babies healthy again! ((hugs)) I'm sending you hugs in this hard time. I know it is so stressful- I will continue to send sweet Bailey prayers! |
I am just now seeing this, too. I know what a terrible scream sounds like for sure! I will keep your Bailey in my prayers. |
I understand why you love your little boy so much, and I hope the specialist can help him. I am so sorry that Bailey is in pain and that you both are going through this. |

thank you all for sharing and your advice. I think I have a hard time just putting it into perspective... I was so very afraid he was going to die. |

Did you apply for Care Credit today? They will give you enough credit to pay for Bailey's surgery or whatever he may need  |
Poor Bailey:( Saying a prayer that everything works out ok. I know you will do all you possibly can to help your sweet little boy get better. |

I should add.... Lisa did keep me calm for the first few days:rolleyes: but then she had the NERVE to go home:( I think I "freaked" when the Vet said he would be paralized if one of the dish ruptured.. but seamed to be calm about Bailey. Lisa.. I checked into care credit. When I get the final "cost" I will see if it is better to just pay for it or use credit. Credit vs going into emergency fund (remember ... with other things in my life emergency fund is very important!!) It may be no vacation and some home improvements put off which is fine I should receive his new harness tomorrow and maybe try very short walks (advice from the vet) .. he wants to observe how well he is healing on his own so Im thinking it is serious but not criticial (this after talking to him yesterday). He did not get pain meds yesterday and did very very well. |
Keeping you and Bailey in my prayer's .:animal-pa |
1 Attachment(s) here is a picture of bailey out for a "walk" .. he doesn't understand why he can not go with his "pack" lol... never thought I would use the purple stroller for Bailey!! Bailey is a 26 lb shih tuz... in long coat |
Shinga you are a very attractive young lady and Bailey looks so sweet sitting in the stroller, I truly hope that the vets make him better soon :) |
Just seeing this. I hope Bailey recovers quickly without further treatment. I love the picture of you and Bailey. Both so cute! I will pray for his complete recovery. |
Praying for you and Bailey! I am glad to see he is feeling somewhat better!! |
How is Bailey Shinja? |
I think he is getting better. The vet said to alternate days with the steroids thus I did not give any meds to him on Monday and Tuesday morning he was acting as if he had some pain... not any where near the amount he had but some discomfort. So... I gave him his meds yesterday and just keeping him as quite as I can. I am walking him in the evening with the "pack" but he is in a stroller (one I got for Remy-- nice and purple!!) I had to zip the netting on because he is now feeling well enough to notice his surroundings.. all I would need for him to jump out of the stroller:eek: But as Gemy said.. they need the change and this way he can still be part of the family. Dh is taking him in for a check up and evaluation. We are scheduled for the nero .. Still sleeping on the floor (air mattress) down stairs with him.. Well really all puppies. |
Just catching up... So sorry to hear about Bailey & the terrible pain he is having. I can't even imagine going through this. Praying he recovers without needing further treatment. |
I am glad to hear that Bailey may be improving! :) |

sorry to read this, glad to hear that you seem to be on the right track, I have a question, is this an age problem, or did he do this by hurting himself. Prayers for you guys |

Bailey is a shih tuz (Remy's big brother) and I guess I posted this on the wrong area. sorry. But what I have found out via the vet(s) and research (what did I do before google:confused:) is it is both. Because shih tuz have longer bodies than legs this bread tends to have this problem more than some other breeds. dachshunds are the primary breed to have this problem. BUT the vet said it could happen in most any breed just not as often. In my research I read about Shepherds who have this problem and others. Now... what can you do to prevent as much as possible? Use a harness, limit jumping, supplements to diet and luck I guess. I feel very very guilty... I have NEVER limited Bailey's jumping (he is so big and healthy it never crossed my mind) and I used a collar. I now use the chokefree shoulder harness (in fact i love them so much I am a now a reseller:thumbup:) and added supplements AND have been sleeping on the floor:eek: (air mattress) until the vet gives a clean bill of health ..and I ordered a ramp. I have steps that are great but Bailey will not use them:( As I told my DH... we will do what we can for Bailey and do what we can so this does not happen to Sammy and Remy:) As to the Holistic Vet... I know it will not take the place if surgery is required.. but can speed the healing and comfort of Bailey. imo Now.... I would like to add... I am SOOOOO new to this.. Gemy, Lady Jane, 107Barney and a few others have lived it and know so much more!! |
