Lumas eye swollen We came back from going out to eat and let Luma out of her crate. I quickly noticed her left eye was a little swollen. It is getting more and more pronounced :( I dont know if its an allergic reaction or something poked her in the eye....could baby benadryl help? Where and what brand to buy it? Its just one eye, and its only her lower "lid". Under her eye.. its really swollen :( I of course want to rush to the vet but bf says its not that bad....what do y'all think?? Poor baby. She cant even blink it...:( |
It's her eye, she needs to see the vet... if you have plain eyewash you could rinse the eye. |
I would go straight to the vet today!! These pups can get abrasions on their corneas that can quickly turn into deep ulcers. I would do nothing and head to a vet today...what can happen over 24 hours can be frightening! I cannot emphasize this enough! I have dealt with eye ulcers and know how bad they can become. If you call the vet and tell them it is an eye issue, they should fit you in immediately. |
Carmen I would take Luma to the Vet right away. My Boxer had an abrasion on her eye and we were told it could burst. Please keep us posted on Sweet Luma. |
We are on the way right now.. Poor sweetie. She cant close it now. Lots of whimpering so she is probably in pain. I called in advance so theyll take her when we get there :( |
Awe poor Luma:( Please keep us posted. |
Good. Eye issues should always be seen the same day. |
I hope it is something minor. So glad you are taking her in. |
I am so happy you took her in to the vet. Saying prayers. |
So happy to hear that you are on your way to the vet! |
Poor baby...happy you are on your way to the vet..pls keep us posted. |
poor Luma!! |
Poor baby :( Thank you for being such a good mommy and taking her to the vet. |
poor Luma. Are you there yet Carmen? What did the vet say? sending well wishes |
Yep, we're here. They took us back immediately and took temp, normal. She lost three ounces since last weigh in. Shes 3.3Lbs. Looked at her belly and saw bug bites/rash and her eye has gone down a bit. They only have one doctor on staff right now for whatever reason, and shes next door taking care of a dog whose been howling the whole time. So. |
We are all checking in on Luma;) |

She has an ear infection and as for the eye theyre speculating between a cherry eye, which is a prolapsing nictitating membrane....or conjunctivitis which they see alot in puppies. Theyre gonnna give her some antibiotics and a prescription earwash, plus shes gonna get another parvo shot. |
Basically im a horrible mama!!! We try to wash her ears very well, especially after the dog park, but I guess not good enough. I feel bad...her eye is almost back to normal oddly enough. |
So glad you took her. I hope Luma feels better in no time. |

We are home now...we gave her some benadryl and she will be taking clavamox twice a day and resortin in her ears twice a day. Also, they said in two weeks they will call me to set up her spay  she is only four months old! But they said it needs to be done early or she runs the risk of starting her first heat..and the little ones tend to bleed too much. Does that sound right to y'all? I'm sure she'll be close to six months when the spay is actually done. |

Carmen I am so glad Luma is feeling a little better. It is so scary when these little ones are sick. You are a good mom..you noticed something was wrong and you didn't sit around and play the wait and see gain. You took her right in when you saw something was wrong. That is what a good mom does. I hope she continues to get better with the meds.. Oh and Bogie and Jada both had ear infections when I took them in for their annual check-ups a couple of years ago and I had no idea. |

I also agree it seems better to wait on the spay...but they seemed like doing it within the next two months seemed fine. I'll want to get any baby teeth out during the same visit so she isn't going under anesthesia more than absolutely necessary. |
