Need Help I Just got my baby last thursday at 9wks of age, so i had her so far for 4 days. On saturday i was taking her to get her shot and she was not her self, so the doc did not give her the shot. They did Fecal Exam and Glucose blood test. The result were that she have campylobacter and Hypoglycemia. They treating it with antibiotics and i have nutri-cal. I am so worried cause 1 min she is fine but the next it is the same again. Have anyone been thru this before? Help Please very worried about my baby. |
9 weeks is really, really young to be taken from the Momma. Reputable breeders don't let their pups go until after 12 weeks for the very reason you're experiencing now. But since this pup is so young, I'd recommend having food out 24/7 for free feeding. That way the little one can grab food whenever. Since she's so young, you need to be making sure she's eating, just like a newborn baby. Make sure you have the number of an ER vet in case she gets worse throughout the night. Good luck and keep us posted. |
what are you feeding her, is she eating fine? try boiling some plain chicken & white rice, a very bland diet to calm her stomach, feed her 3-4x's a day in small amounts. after her stool improves, add her kibble in the water that the chicken & rice was boiled in & feed her half the chicken & rice w/moistened kibble. as long as she's eating, she shouldn't have any more hypoglycemic episodes. make sure she's resting & keep her in an enclosed space where she won't exert herself...did the vet show you how to check her gums, signs for hypoglycemia? it should be pink & moist. |
I do leave her food out but she will not touch it. |
The Vet had me buy Royal Canin starter mousse. I did not no that she was to young i would have never bought her that young, But now i am doing the best I can. |
You may need to feed her yourself....and perhaps as often as every 3 hours. YHR has a puppy that was sold at 8 weeks and he kept having issues with hypoglycemia. His owner had tried free feeding and it simply did not work out. She turned him over to us at 11 weeks. He is now in a foster home and they are syringe feeding him around the clock. |
I got Cali as 9 weeks and she wouldn't eat and had parasites. The only food she would eat some of was Cesars wet food. I had to feed her every 3-4 hours day and night. For now I would check on her every couple of hours if she hasn't eaten. They can go down so quick. Cali grew out of it and eats like a little pig now. I hope she feels better soon. |
You also might ask the vet about Science Diet A/D. It is often used for these sick pups as it is high caloric. It is easy to syringe feed that food. |
Well me and my husband have been syringe feeding her today. |
me and my husband has been syringe feeding her already. |
i did syringe feed her. |
It needs to be frequent and around the clock. The fact that she has an infection is also a factor in her blood sugar going low. Here is a link with some helpful information: Dog Hypoglycemia (Low Blood Sugar): Symptoms, Treatment, and Prevention |
Me and my husband been doing it like every 3hrs. She was fine yesterday. |
Buy a can of goats milk, mix a few ounces of the milk with equal parts of water i have always give this to puppies when they were being weaned...she may be missing moms milk |
Please keep us posted we are here for you and your pup...I hope your both ok...Keep posting it will help you and your pup. |
Well the vet did an fecal sample she has campy. |
poor puppy. =( aww...I am so sorry to hear about your puppy. I wish I knew what to say, but I had none of these issues with mine though it sounds like excellent advice on here. ;o) I was told honey is good to bring their sugar up. that is what I was told for my yorkie, Thankfully I never had too. then again she came to me at 13 weeks of age. she was winged from mama, eating on her own puppy kibble & potty training had been started. I hope your pup gets better. ;) good luck to you. |
thank you it is a lot of work. |

Thank you to everyone, I been having bad day all day. I miss my baby even though I did not have her that long. |
Oh dear, I'm so sorry to hear that. Positive thoughts and healing light coming your way |
You contact the "breeder" IMMEDIATELY and let her know what is going on. Ask her exactly what she wants you to do to be sure your contract and the health guarantee is valid......you are entitled to getting your money back after just 4 days......but I will be stunned and amazed if she does that....you are going to have vet bills and psssibly loose the baby....she should be right there with you for support during this, plus she should be picking up vet bills (and refunding your money if you loose your precious little baby...) |
