Rescuemomma I just want to say that you do NOT need to explain yourself or defend your actions. You did what you had to do. I am a vet tech too, i understand. I know you posted this thread because you are stressed out and looking for help (not donations) for Moose. This thread took a turn for the worse right after your opening post. Honestly at this point I'd ask for this thread to be closed and walk away. |

I think those with vet tech training all understand why I'm making the choices I am. I've worked in a couple ERs and multiple regular clinics, I know what happens in hospital and have alot of training that the average pet owner couldn't fully understand. And don't need to defend myself. Now I should have taken a deep breath and calmed down before posting, and that's my bad - and would love to see this closed now. |

I completely agree with kalina82. You should not feel attacked. You are looking for support not to be critiqued. Sometime people get so focused on one area they forget that people make mistakes they later regret. They can't see the forest for the trees. They lose the bigger picture. No person is perfect. I could quote bible verses but won't. People that attack others will need to one day explain themselves. |
Rescuemomma, to have the thread closed, all you have to do is click on the exclamation point in the triangle....at the bottom left corner of every post and ask for the thread to be closed. You can do that with any thread that you have started yourself. :) |

Sometimes it's just better to close it. I'm not a tech, but a pre-vet. My vet knows what I can handle and I can talk to her whenever I need to. So when the call in made that the dog can stay home with me, it stays home with me. And I agree with you about the ER. The vet is going to be sleeping (if there is nothing critical there) unless there is a problem reported by a tech. Do what you think is best for your pups. |

I just wanted to offer prayer that little Moose is feeling better and all recovered soon. |
My larger concern here is the frequency of illness and/or emergencies and large number of animals and no money for vet care. I did not ask the OP to defend herself .. I merely suggested she take a long look at the numbers of animals she is attempting to keep without money for vetting. We could debate the topic of treating pups at home vs a hospital setting all day long and never agree. I do what I believe is prudent and sensible...I prefer my extremely ill pups be in a hospital setting where resuscitative measures can be taken if they should crash. I am a skilled medical professional and would never ever do what has been posted...but I know those of you who think it is appropriate will not agree. |
Hoping that Moose is doing better this morning... |
Praying for all the sick babies. |
Hoping Moose is better this morning! |
Thanks everyone! Lady Jane - for the most part ALL my dogs are seniors and/or very special needs. That's why I took them in. And if you think they'd be better euthanized then me exhausting my funds when several emergencies happened together - that's on you, not me - I never said I didn't have funds for vetting, just I hadn't planned extra for dogs that don't belong to me - but as always, Moose will never get any less then the best care I can get him! Moose is doing great this morning - still a bit sore and stiff, but he was playing with his stuffy and playing before I took him to the vet to be watched for the day while I'm busy. I'm sure he'll be just fine - his sore already look much better! He'll be sore for a bit, but he'll bounce back with no problems! |

I am happy to hear that Moose is doing better. |
Since people still are posting I am going to add. I don't see any attacking being done here, by myself or anyone else. There is a great concern here for the animals she has in her care. All of the info I see posted is directly related to everything the OP has posted herself. Accidents happen, illnesses occur, theres nothing you can do about that. When you are running a RESCUE you have to be more prepared and at the least have a planned course of action. Time and time again the news reports on stories of so called RESCUES and the animals that have to be removed. I'm not saying this is the case here, based on ALL of the OP's posts and threads, it does lead one to wonder. Has many dogs and cats, rarely home, a doggy door (dangerous as there are coyotes there), and no resources. OP came on and did not ask for moral support she painted a picture of utter chaos and an injured animal, again. OP had another dog that had catastrophic injuries that she admitted the next day were far worse than she realized. Ultimately, that dog did not survive. OP declared that she had no resources, I for one, gave her suggestions, she claimed to have exhausted all avenues, she was on THIS SIDE OF ASKING FOR DONATIONS, without using the words. Now let me be clear, I truly believe that OP has the best of intentions and truly loves animals and I truly believe she is overwhelmed and has probably taken on too much, and I firmly believe she needs to reach out to others now, and ask for help in placing some of the animals that she now can't provide for in an emergency. As a rescuer (What is the name of your Rescue), she should definitely know this. As a vet tech (are you currently a vet tech?), she should know this, as an animal advocate and lover she should know this, I would be willing to help her do this. Rescuemomma, I think your a good person, please do the right thing for your animals. |
I feel such empathy for you, caught in such a situation, trying to do the right thing by everyone involved, having the additional issue of the injured pup at home.....chaos! Most of us have been there...those who have not, will be there some day. Things do not always run so perfectly, and one day, you wake up, someone has thrown a cog into the gears, and the train has left the track! With your training and the relationship you have with your vet, you are fortunate enough to have access to equipment and supplies at home. One of the very basic things you learn, in ANY area of medicine, is "know your limitations". I dont question that you are acutely aware of what you can and can not handle at home. People that do not have experience and/or knowledge in medicine, either human or animal, just are not aware of the comfort level and confidence people that DO have such knowledge, feel. What is common practice to us, seems way over the top for others not involved in the medical field, and you can quickly be accused of overstepping your bounds. I am not worried about that aspect, and you have the back up of a vet, who is also willing to put HER license on the line to support you and your care of these injured animals. I KNOW when a vet or MD is willing to trust you to be doing the right thing for the animal or human, and they are backing up your decisions with THEIR license, they see no issue with your actions. In my humble opinion, you do NOT have to defend your position or your decisions you made. Hind sight is ALWAYS so very clear and glaring and judgemental. We ALL could make perfect decisions if we could see hind sight FIRST! WE ALL MAKE JUDGEMENT CALLS, SOME BETTER THAN OTHERS, AND WE LEARN FROM THE ONES THAT DO NOT WORK OUT WELL! Now.....Moose....how is Moose doing this am? |
glad moose is doing better this morning. hope he continues to improve. |
I'm so glad to see Moose is getting better.....Wishing you both the best. |
Moose is doing great! He's eating, playing, and a happy guy this morning. I over reacted yesterday because I was stressed. And normally - I'm not gone for long. I work 10 minutes away and go home on my lunch hour. But right now things will be different for a couple weeks, and then go back to normal - lets face it, life has a way of throwing curve balls at us - when my dear friend's dad is home and his family and home care can take over all his care, I'll return to my normal life. My emergency funds will recover. I have never asked for donations here despite what you may have read into it. And will be much more careful what I say and how I say it. The dogs in my home for the most part are not adoptable dogs. I took in Skeeter and Moose to keep them out of the shelter and to help keep their dad from being forced to give them up when my rescue friends and I couldn't find another foster. They will go back to their dad when he's physically able to care for them. The rest? I will always give them up when good, qualified homes come along but most need very specialized care very few are able to give them or would be willing to go to the expense of. As long as their needs are met they're happy, healthy, and do great - but of medications aren't given on schedule (and if you read - I did have a neighbor come check on them and medicate the ones that needed it), things aren't done right, or food isn't prepared right - they will get sick or even die. That said - I've got better things to focus on and have already asked the admins to close this. |
