Please do yourself a favor and join the Yahoo group that Perella and Anaic have suggested...you will be with people who have gone through just what you are going through. People who really do understand and also know more about this condition. I cannot stress this enough...you really DO need to be with them at this time. They can offer you a lot of support! I don't want to see you not post on YT....we also want to hear how things are going. You and your sweet Livie are in my thoughts and prayers. |
Here is a link about AAI for those of you who are not familiar with the treatment options: ACVS - Atlantoaxial Instability |
A splint for this condition is what they call conservative management. This is when the dog presents little neurological issues. We knew after the initial consultation with Georgie he had to have the surgery he had issues with all 4 limbs at that point. The chances are higher for a complete recovery with surgery but there have been reported cases of improvement with the splint. The specialist told us that if we weren't able to get the surgery right away then Georgie would need a splint right away. Fortunately for us we were able to get it done. I know how much you love Livie and I pray you are able to get the surgery as well. We are all here for you and Livie and again I know can totally relate to how you feel. Please join our yahoo group there you will have people who know what you are going through. Please keep us posted. |
The splint is a bandaid compared to what she needs, all it does is to stabilize her neck so it does not further impinge on the spinal cord! It has already thus the symptoms, pain, inability to walk, steroids does decreases the inflammation process caused by the damage on the spinal cord. The pain is there only masked by the pain meds, the damage is occurring and on going, the sooner the better for surgery so there will not be life long neuro deficits! At any time something can go wrong! Affect her respiratory status, STOP her breathing and you won't make it to the vet. If you don't or care not to listen to me, Georgies's mom, or Parella and heed our earnest sincere heartfelt warning and concerns so be it, all you have to do is google the condition and READ! Again we are only caretakers of our beautiful fur babies here on earth. We all have to answer someday for our behavior here I wish for Livvia life and health and to be paid free |
Just joined the yahoo group! Are there any other groups i can join? Facebook, etc? to get more info? |
Btw the medication she is on is :Prednisolone .4 ml twice a day and Gabapentin .5 ml. Idk which is the steroid but she hates one of them, the other one that is red is doable, she will lick it up. The other is hard to give to her, and idk which one is constipating her but she is not going poo normally. I think she just doesn't want to go on herself :/ |
