Goodness, I really need to stop and take the time to proof read, sorry.

I'm working and was just trying to get some info to the OP, I'm so worried about this wee-one. :(

mizzwanned 04-20-2012 06:59 PM

I am worried. can anyone give me some advice..she has not had a bowel movement since shes been home and now she is panting. iDK if she is hot or what. She keeps trying to move around and toppling over on her back, and then cant get up again

mizzwanned 04-20-2012 07:08 PM

I just hate the cast, it looks soooo uncomfortable and tight

ladyjane 04-20-2012 07:27 PM

Is she in pain? What meds is she on and when was she last medicated? Poor baby sounds stressed...as do you.

She may need to have a bowel movement...can you take her out or to her pad if she uses them, and hold her so she can go?

ladyjane 04-20-2012 07:29 PM

Do you have a thermometer? Maybe take her temperature to see what it is? She could be hot as you suggested.

Anaic 04-20-2012 09:02 PM

Mizz,

when they are stressed they will pant, having the neck brace on will stress her, being in pain will stress her, we need to know what meds they sent you home with until your able to do the surgery?

We syringe fed Shelby, slowly they will lap up the water, and soft food we had her on science diet the vet can recommend it, or just soak her dry kiddle mash up well and you can syringe feed her that.

Regarding the bowels she will poop when she cant hold it any more, do you have anyone that can stay with her while your at work, she has to be kept quiet, away from the other dogs, given frequent water, cleaned in her private parts, and from bowel movement.

any friends? family? sister? just so she isnt alone

What meds did they send you home with? steroids? prednisone, pain meds?

I have given you my private phone numbers, I am at work on night shift, but if you call the cell i can call you back.

Come over to the yahoo group that i referred you to, link was posted on page 2

The neck brace is compressing her neck from being moved downward, and they have a hard time eating and drinking, but that is where you come in and syringe feed her.

Just checking in to see how livie is doing, hopefully she gets better soon. You are being such a strong mommy, I know how horrible it is when they're sick, feeling so helpless! Sending more prayers

tjdmom 04-21-2012 03:21 PM

Oh gosh! So sad... I hope you are able to work things out! It sounds like it would be a whole lot cheaper to go to another state even if you add in travel fees. I hope you are able to work it out - you must be a wreck!

chestermama 04-21-2012 03:28 PM

Hey,
Quick update, i am at my brother's house on his laptop, about to go home soon. I had to help my s.i.l go to a birthday party with her kids, cause my brother is working and her toddler is so active so Livie is currently with my mom so she is fine. This morning i found livie covered in her poop, i was super glad cause she was finally able to go, but it was all over her :( Poor thing. I had to wash everything, and her hiney, but some got on the cast. I wiped with baby wipes as much as i could, cause they told me i can't get it wet. But i wash able to wash her paws, and tail area, etc. she tried to shake, like dogs do when wet so i know that's a good sign. i called the vet before she pooped cause i was worried and he did say the medicine can cause that, i know she is on steroids and a pain med, and pepcid once a day. When i get home i will write down the names of them. Other than that she seems to be eating well and drinking water. I have ground up chicken and rice, cause normally they eat hard food- california natural. But i will go get some california natural wet food also, cause i know they have that. As far as walking, my little girl can't do that yet. She tries but ends up going in circles, it seems she can only get her back legs to work. I am worried if she is permenently paralysed on her upper legs, or if it is just the cast. She has feeling in them, i know that and she moves them when i am holding her but doesn't bare weight on them :(

I agree, i am thinking that as well. I dont have the funds for surgery though, so i am looking into the care credit. That's my only option right now

Yes i do, what is normal temp. for them. i think she was hot, cause i put her in my room which is cooler and she eventually stopped, and i gave her lots of water. Her nose was hotter than usualy to the touch, and her gums were more red which i've noticed when they are hot so i think that was it.

Thank you, i am going to call. Nope, it is just me and my mom. When she doesn't work she can help but sometimes has things to do. My bf also works like everyday so he's out of the question. And my other fam, like my bro live 30 min away from me. i was thinking if i can maybe hire someone for when both me and my mom are working but i don't knw how much that would be, i guess i'm going to have to look into it. I will check out the yahoo group, thanks

Since we haven't spoken on the phone and seem to communicate on YT...I need to talk with you about something.

Believe me, after going through this with my Zhoie...I do know how overwhelmed and stress you are feeling. However, as you have stated...you don't have the funds to move forward with the necessary surgery and are checking out CareCredit. I know you have spent so much on a treatment that is not a fix when they are missing a den between their C1 & C1 disk. I'm so sorry about that, but maybe it will give her a little bit of relief until you see if you can get this worked out. Now, to my question....

If you are not able to get the money for the surgery, are you willing to put the welfare of your Livie first above all else and surrender her to a yorkie rescue that will have the surgery done? Would you consider that....PLEASE, before other neuro symptoms become present and the chance of successful surgery is not a high as they are right now. Sometimes...making the hardest choice for you, is what is best for the dog, which I know love Livie very much. It's the utmost gift of love you could ever give to your girl...the gift of a life that she so deserves. Please don't end up having to put her down without giving her a chance at life...she is only 2yrs. Her chance of a successful surgery is outstanding.

Please call me...we can talk about it.
