scared lil doggie I have a 6 month old yorkie named capone Last week a gate fell over at my house and my boyfriend tripped on it he then started barking running around the house in circles he urinated as he was running around the house .. He ran into the corner we picked him up and tried to calm him down .. About 2 hours later his bone fell on the floor and he did the same thing again.. He'd been ok until today my boyfriend went to put his arm around me and he started barking and running around the house he pooped and urinated while he was doing this .. I called the emergency room and they told me it could be behavior problems not to bring him in.. He's eating and drinking just fine he just seems scared.. What could this be ?? I'm frightened to leave him home alone.. Could this be behavorial or something more ??:( |
It sounds like he's having some trauma reactions. It probably scared him so much, and he might be jumpy for awhile. I'm so sorry he's going thru this, it must be heartbreaking to watch. Keep talking calmly to him whenever he gets scared, so he doesn't react to something overly long (which can make it worse over time). Another thing to think about if it continues, is a Thundershirt - it can really help w/ anxiety and fear. :) Keep us posted about the little guy. Edited to Add: LOVE the name Capone! So cute. |
Thank you !! Is this normal for yorkies ?? I'm so scared for my lil guy !! |
Poor Capone! I agree with Ann's advice to talk to him calmly when something like this happens, behave in a reassuring way. My younger boy was scared by big noises or unexpected things. I would react by saying in a normal/sort of funny voice, "Wow, that was a big noise." The message I was sending was, "nothing to worry about." Then I would redirect his attention to something desirable, like playing or doing a trick for a treat. When Teddy first came home with us at 8 months old, we had a service man come to the back sliding glass door. People don't normally appear at that door, so Teddy was taken by surprise and scared to death. When he barked at the service man, he lost control of his body functions. Try not to worry too much because Capone will pick up on your feelings and think there is reason to be concerned. He is young and still learning about the big world. Expose him to as much as possible and show him he doesn't need to be afraid of these things. :) Hope he feels better soon. |

I agree with everyone else! A thundershirt is an excellent idea. You may also want to try some Rescue Remedy to help calm him down, and play soft, classical music. |
A tiny bit of yogurt or a little bit of boiled chicken make everything better. :) |
I would have a vet check him out. Perhaps this is neurological? There are neuro conditions that can cause these symptoms. |
Oh poor little guy. Sorry i don't have any advice accept maybe it would be a good idea to go to your regular vet for a complete check up. You just never know what underlying issue could be causing this behavior.. |
I'm waiting for the vet to call me back so I can bring him in .. it happened again this morning so i need to find out whats wrong with him :( |
