Well unless you did Bile Acid Tests to check out liver function; either one or both of your breeding dogs could actually have a liver problem. Could be MVD or a very small extrahepatic shunt. The litter mate definitely should be tested for liver disease, with or without symptoms. The test is NOT expensive and is relatively easy to do. It is recommended all pups be tested at 16wks and then again at 6mths old. It does take time for the liver to mature. And as Nancy has indicated both breeding dogs should be neutered as this is a recessive polygenetic disease; which means both of those dogs carried the combination of genes to produce an LS puppy. Also the other puppy should never be bred either. |
Cricket had surgery last week. The shunt was larger than expected but her prognosis is good. It will be a while before we know for sure |
