OMG My Yorkie got bite by Rattlesnake!!!! I let the dogs out in the back yard and before I knew it a rattlesnake that was on my back porch had bitten my Mogee!!! Cannot believe that snake was curled up on my back porch!! Mogee is the most friendly of my 3 and was clueless to what was going to happen to him. I had given al the dogs the rattlesnake vaccine but the snake had hit a real vascular area around his ear. He was screaming when I realized what had happened. I had to gather all the dogs up cause they were investigating the snake and it was horrible. I did not know how effective the vaccine would have been but Mogee was bleeding so bad I knew he had to see the vet ASAP. I flew 90 mph down the road..(country road) and within 10 minutes he was in shock. The vet immediately started all the pro call for him and that included anitvemon. She said that if rattlesnake strike main vascular area then the antivenin does not have a chance to work. She says he is not out of the woods yet so I am believe for complete recovery. Suppose to call back after 4. Wanted everybody to know and pray. |

Oh my goodness, how horrible! I am so sorry... I'm glad you were able to get him to the vet right away. Please update us when you can... We have rattlesnakes here, so we know how bad they are :( |

Oh my how scary, glad you were able to treat fast, sending prayers your way. Don't know if it's true, but I've heard if you have a few king snakes on your property, they help keep the rattlesnakes away because they eat all the stuff the rattlesnakes would eat and a king snake isn't poisonous. |

Oh my goodness what a scary thing to happen:( I will say prayers for Mogee that he pulls through this. I am so glad you were right there and saw what was happening. Your quick thinking and speedy trip to the vets most likely saved your baby's life. |

I thought I was safe giving them the rattlesnake vaccine but if the vemon goes into a vascular area then it not a for sure thing. I cannot trust my backyard. We are in the country so it is on leash outside from here on. Coyotes and now rattlesnakes!!!! I have had dogs all my life and never had a rattlesnake encounter. My avatar has his picture |

oh my goodness how awful, so glad you were there, waiting for four has to be like torture, I pray for a good outcome. Never knew that about racoons, we live on a lake and have a family of coons living in one of our trees, we are going to try to rehome them Easter weekend when my DH has time to tend the trap. Lola only goes out on a leash so thankfully I don't have to worry to much but the thought of it just gives me creeps. So many people think I should get a fence but I say even with a fence I would not let her roam the yard, we have geese, ducks, chipmunks, and tons of other critters and their droppings she could be anywhere eating wild life poop, dead birds, chasing unfriendly geese, and now that she loves to swim jumping in the lake. No thank you I tell them the leash works fine. |
Called the vet and she said she is giving more IV fluids and cortisol to keep him from going into shock. Hard balance to keep him from being in pain witch sedates him and keep him from going into shock. Mogee is my husband's dog by Mogee's choice and he is out of town. He has dropped everything and is on his way back in town. We know what the Power of God can do and we stand firm on His Word of PEACE- noting missing and nothing broken in our family and that includes our animals. |

I am praying for your little one. I live in the country too. Its very scary because I am outside at night for potty breaks. I will make sure we keep the grass cut down but even that won't help. I am going to get some "snake away" from Lowes next week. Thanks for sharing this important warning. I know we are all praying for a positive outcome. |
Oh yes, your little one is in God's hands. Stay strong and encourage. This is so heartbreaking and it really hits home. As the weather warms up , we all need to be careful. |
