I know that was so scary. Thank God that you got an xray and Mickey is fine. My Heidi got to a chicken bone that the cat knocked off the counter. I was so scared. The vet took an xray and said everything was fine and sent us home but she didn't act right. The next night when I feed her she swallowed and it all came right back up and I knew something was wrong. We got her to the emergency vet and the bone was lodged in her esophagus too. He called in a surgeon and he did an endoscopy. He couldn't get it out so he had to push it down in the stomach, break it up and then remove it. I know you feel guilty just as I did but you have to remember that you didn't do anything intentionally. I'm so glad that you had a very happy outcome. |
Wow i'm really relieved to hear they were able to get it out and Mickeys doing well, what a scare!. I used to give bully sticks when Lexie was a pup but they smelled horrible. I now give her raw meaty bones and that's working amazingly for her teeth and gums, my vet was so impressed. |
Thank you everyone! :aimeeyork Mickey is back to himself today. He and Max are playing & fighting as usual :) I never thought this could happen to us. There were 3 people in the room with him when this happened. We were watching them but we don't stare at them the entire time. I am always careful to take the bullies away when they get to about 3 inches. I suppose it could happen with any chew or toy. I am so thankful my fur baby is ok. :aimeeyork |
Yes, it can happen far too easily and that is why owners of especially small dogs have to be ever vigilant and cautious. Makes us a bit weird but there you go! I'm just thrilled to death Mickey is fine. I love great endings to scary stories! Best of wishes for you and your babies in the future. |

Thank goodness Mickey is ok. We used to give bullysticks to our little girl and take them away when she got them down to three inches. She was getting sick so our vet said to take them away and give nylabones and I buy the hard ones. I have the ones you said you just bought. My vet recommended when they get a little rough edges ; he said we can file them a little. We always monitor her when chewing these because she likes to be a little piglet. Anyways I commend you for the fast response on Mickey and thank God everything is ok. This could happen to anyone of us with our babies and thanks for letting us know. Susan |
0MG:D Too scary! I worry about it when Cali has a bully stick - and she adores them. Because I was so worried I push the bully stick into a Kong toy (sometimes have to use the vice and a hammer) so I can control how much is sticking out for her to chew on. I am so OCD about it that I make her sit beside me to chew it - besides, if I don't she take it somewhere nd hit it:) Someone on YT gave me the idea of the Kong toy thing last year. |
Oh my goodness, so glad Mickey is Ok, I hope you are too I know how scared you must have been, I can't wrap my head around the whole bullystick thing, but can see how that could happen once the gag reflex starts...I am so sorry this happened to your little guy and so glad hes ok, omg I am truly sorry you all went through that. |

107barney He is acting like nothing happened! :aimeeyork I guess me and my hubby are the ones still recovering. I was a wreak. He is sleeping by the gas fireplace now. SO cute!!! Took him outside for a walk around the yard today and he loved the fresh air. He is back to being totally himself now. I am the one babying him. I just love this little guy! He makes me laugh & smile every day since I got him from Breny. :2hearts2: I don't know what I would have done if we lost him. :( I\'m so glad we took him right in to the ER vet office. And I am really glad we got the x-ray. Every time the vet said it will cost "X" to get this or that it was like "ok fine". $2600 later my boy is still here and I can not think of anything else I would have rather spent the $ on! Not a single thing! That was one expensive bully stick! :eek: |
