Just got back from the ER vet with Teddy At 2:30 AM Teddy started swelling in the throat and rubbing his neck and face. I wasn't sure what he was doing at first maybe he was having an allergic reaction. I took him down to the kitchen to see him in the light and his collar was tight and he was all swollen. I woke my husband up and we went to the ER vet which is about 20 mins away. When we got there, Teddy's skin was really red and swollen. The vet gave him a shot of benadryl and although he was improving, she was concerned so gave him a shot of steroid (dexamethasone). He has to continue the benedryl for the next several days. This is almost an exact repeat of the allergic reaction he had back in August. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sic...-reaction.html I really don't know what caused it. He was in bed both times. The vet asked me if I used anything new like fabric softener etc but we haven't. He did have a bath this afternoon, and I'm wondering if it is the shampoo. I've used it before, but maybe he is sensitive. Keep my little Teddy in your thoughts - I'm so upset, this is very scary when this happens. |
Oh Cathy, that is so very scary. Sounds like it was the middle of the night, and for whatever reason you were able to catch this. Prayers for your little Teddy. |
That is terrifying. I'm so glad you got him to the vet quickly. And I thought sneezing was a bad allergy symptom. That's so scary. Hope he's feeling better soon. |
How scary!! I hope the benadryl keeps Teddy's symptoms under control. Whatever he is allergic to seems to affect him severely. I hope you can someway find out what it is. I will keep the little guy in my prayers. |
Thank goodness you took the time to check him out carefully and get him to the ER immediately. Sending positive thoughts for Teddy to get better soon! |
Oh my Cathy, I know you were so scared for him. I'm sorry the little guy is going through this. So glad, the ER is that close to you and your quick response to his needs likely saved him. Sending prayers for his continued improvement. |
Oh poor teddy, i sure hope you can find the cause and he feels better real soon. A prayer and hug for teddy |
That had to be so scary! I'm so glad you got him to the vet as fast as you did. I'll keep Teddy in my prayers for a full recovery. |
Cathy, glad to hear Teddy is okay. You're a good momma always keeping an eye on your babies. Hope he feels better soon. |
hope teddy is better! |
Cathy, that sounds so scarey. So glad he is feeling better after benadryl and steroids. Poor little boy. I'm not sure what insects are in your neck of the woods, but around here we have biting spiders. I knew a gal whose dog all of a sudden had his foot swell. He couldn't ambulate on it - really blew up. She took him to the vet and it was a spider bite. Vet told her to watch her other pets bc sometimes they are allergic to these bites. Just thought I'd share. Hopefully, you and your vet can figure out the cause of these episodes. Poor little Teddy. Give him hugs from me and the girls. |
Oh Cathy, Im sorry poor Teddy is going thru this. Thank God you woke up when you did. Hugs and prayers for Teddy. |
Yikes! Wonder what is causing this? Scary stuff. Hope he is ok now..... |
Scarey reaction! I'm so happy you were already to react so fast and that Teddy is okay. |
Oh my goodness this is real scary. I hope Teddy is feeling better now. |
