Little Tibbe Has Pneumonia! Having never been sick a day in his life, Tibbe began shaking and standing in the middle of the floor with his tail down and looking woefully at me Thursday afternoon. Nothing I tried seemed to comfort or satisfy him. Even cuddling, he would eventually get up and get to the same spot in the floor and shake and look at me. Also, he went down the hall to the other end of the house and got beside the bed - another time he isolated in one of the bathrooms. After about one hour of this, I got him up, saw good pink gums, no drainage, he wasn't tender any where and his eyes were bright but I felt of his ears and tummy and he felt a bit warm so without even stopping to take his temp myself, we were on our way to the vet. He examined him and took chest films, did some blood work, said his temp was only slightly over 102, diagnosed a very enlarged heart and recommended I take him to the Emergency Vet so he could be properly supported over night and further diagnostic work-up done. I don't really remember the short drive from the vet's to the ER Clinic I was so scared and shocked. The ER Vet did more x-rays, a cardiac Doppler and said his heart was 100% fine once the cardiologist read all the tests, but that he had very early, focal aspirate pneumonia - probably from choking during some unwitnessed vomiting or spitting up. Tibbe stayed there overnight with fluids, antibiotics, etc. and I picked him up yesterday evening. He is doing quite well on his meds at home, a lot less energetic than usual and sleeping a lot but his temp is back to normal, his appetite is good and I think he is on the mend. The ER Vet said the very early recognition that something wasn't right with him and bringing him on into the vet so quickly saved him from a lot of suffering and a lot worse case than if I had waited a day or so. I am just so grateful that Tibbe was able to "tell" me that something wasn't right with him and that early treatment is hopefully going to set him right within the next couple of weeks. Thank God for the wonderful vets that are caring for him, too. Could you all please pray for little Tibbe that his recovery will continue and he will be his normal little Tasmanian-Devil-self, tearing through the house at top speed before long? I honestly don't think I could stand to live without his loving and merry little presence lighting up each and every day of this life. |
Oh my goodness, poor sweet baby. Sending prayers for a speedy and continued recovery. I totally hear you...on not being able to stand it without your little guy. Thank the lord you paid attention and read your baby so well, bless you both! |

Ohhhhh poor little baby. I'm so glad he's doing better and had a mommy that got him to the doc fast. Time is so important on somethings and he will be back to his ole' self soon. Do you mind if I ask what vet you use? |
I just took him to Banfields at Petsmart for the initial looksee since his wellness policy is there but for a sick dog, I go to the Lake Ray Hubbard Emergency Clinic which is not very far from me, thank goodness. It's just off I-30 East and Beltline. It's not happened since I have had Tibbe but if he needed a specialist or treatment beyond that provided by the ER Clinic, I would go to whomever they referred him. |
Oh my goodness. You had quite a scare! I'm glad to hear that Tibbe's on the mend now. I will keep him in my prayers, for a speedy recovery! |
Prayers going out for Tibbe that is he feeling better soon. |

I am hoping and praying that Tibbe will be back to his old self very soon. Great job quickly noticing there was something not right with your little guy...and getting him to the vet ASAP. Get well quick Tibbe, your mama needs you!!! |
Sending get well prayers to Tibbe. I am so glad you noticed right away something wasn't right and got him in to the doctors. |
Thank goodness you got him in right away! It is always good to do that...they can go bad so quickly. He is lucky to have an attentive mom! Will keep him in my thoughts and prayers. |
Great that you caught it quickly! So glad his heart was fine, too. I will keep the little guy in my prayers that he will recover quickly. |
Praying for little Tibbe to recover quickly. He is very lucky to have such a good mom. :) |
Thank you all for the kind words and prayers. They mean so much when your baby is sick. I have read and re-read them. You are all so dear. Tibbe is doing better! He spit up some yesterday morning but has taken his meds like a trooper so far with only a bobble here and there and is eating, though had to be hand fed last night. His temp is just over 100 degrees now and he even tried to play with one of his Stump Squirrels last night for a bit! This morning he ate some of his dog food from the vet all on his own, spitting out the pill that was hidden in one chunk but later ate it when placed in another chunk I hand fed him. He's still sleeping a lot and far from his normal terrier self. It is so strange to see him quiet for most of the day - not typical Tibbe at all. It is scarey. Please continue to pray for his recovery. I am so grateful you all are out there for us. |
You were on the ball Momma! I'm glad to hear he's a bit better today. |
Tibbe just barked at a squirrel he saw just outside the window! I can only think that is a very good sign. He's not drinking much water so am off to syringe a bit into the side of his mouth if he won't lick it voluntarily. Don't want him to get dehydrated. But am encouraged to hear those little yapping barks coming out of him just now! |
