A year ago, January, I replied to your post that we were in the same situation with our little Lucy. We lost her this past January. I really do understand the pain you are feeling. Not one day goes by that I don't miss that sweet soul. It will take a long time. Be gentle with yourself, and allow yourselves all the time in the world you need to grieve. Although Holly is confused right now, I do believe she fully knows what happened. I'm sure she could smell you, after you came home from the vet, and she knew her Buddy was gone. She loved Buddy too. He was her companion and she watched out for him. Perhaps she would still like to lay in his bed? Maybe it would bring her some comfort to smell him? Perhaps in time, you may someday think about getting a new friend for her. But for today, it's time to hug each other close. Don't think for one moment that you did the wrong thing. You looked through your own wants and needs and did what was best for that sweet boy. When they stop eating, it is clear sign that they are ready to go to the bridge. To let Buddy continue on would have been selfish and cruel. I'm so glad you had your last vacation together. I'm sure they are such sweet memories now. I know how happy Buddy was to have his family all together with him, snuggled in Mama and Daddy's arms, carried around like the darling little prince that he was. Rest in Peace, dear boy. You were so loved here on this earth.

Poor Holly...they really do grieve. My Georgie never really got over the loss of his brother Cody. They both slept every night in one spot on my bed...George has never showed interest in sleeping in my bed since...maybe once in a while but never in that spot they shared. He moped around for a few weeks after...it was so sad to watch.

OH man (I am crying reading this)! I'M so sorry! I cannot believe your post was over a year ago and he was with you another year longer, what a gift! My heart breaks for you and your wife and Holly! (((HUGS))) RIP BUDDY! Beautiful beautiful boy!

Holly is just beautiful also, and I know with her love, she'll help mend your broken hearts, and you hers.

As far as we know, he never was in pain. Last Friday he didn't eat and just a few bite on Sat and nothing on Sun or Mon morning, that's when I decided we had to take him to the vets.

After doing some blood work and examine, his kidney's were failing. In the past he had loss his vision about a year ago as well as his hearing. Was getting around ok and eating well and going potty well. The Vet said that they could keep in the hosp and use medication to help with the kidney failure but was just buying time so it was all agreed to let him go. SO SO HARD!!

RIP little Buddy.

It sounds like you all packed a lot of loving into this last precious year. Buddy had a wonderful life with your family and Holly. I love his photos with his special toy. I am crying my eyes out, I just read through the entire thread, and my heart is breaking for you, your wife, and little Holly. I am so glad that you got a little more time with Buddy.
